Broward County Legislative Delegation
Time to end 'free ride' for the Broward Legislative Delegation on Broward taxpayers' back; they should pay ALL costs of an office few citizens know of

Broward County School Board, esp. ethically-challenged Chair Ann Murray, who legally represents Hallandale Beach on the Board, and yet has continually demonstrated that she's afraid of meeting with well-informed Hallandale Beach parents and taxpayers in public and the city. Murray also refuses to answer longstanding questions in public about her very questionable judgment and decisions.
Ann Murray -she's a phony, a bigot and a no-show. Consistently. That's what voters have seen of her tenure on Broward School Board so far -she needs to go!; update on projects at Hallandale High School

Florida Dept. of Transportation, District 4
Inattention to detail costs lives, risks lives, and costs money, yet they are chronically tone-deaf to criticism that is not only self-evident to folks paying attention to longstanding problems.

When was the last time that District 4 Secretary James A. Wolfe subjected himself to intense questioning and follow-up about the dept.'s efforts and policies from the public -in public- instead of merely to industry professionals at closed and often paid events? Or even to reporters who cover transportation?
Whose name, phone number and email address doesn't appear on District 4's webpage?

Why it's the very person in charge -James A. Wolfe
It's also not searchable!

Office of Broward State's Attorney Michael Satz
Not enough space on page to delineate the full scope of the problems, suffice to say that 36 years for one person to be in charge of such a responsible position is too much, esp. for someone who has produced such paltry results in the State of Florida's most corrupt county -the worst of 67!

Broward County Democratic Executive Committee and disconnected Chair Mitch Caeser. Lots of people are quoted as having said variations of that as long as nobody cares who gets the credit, a lot of positive things can be accomplished. The problem in Broward County is that Caesar and his cronies DO care who's in charge and who gets the credit. Desperately, desperately care! But what do they have to show for it? He and his pals are the head party boss and cabal of a one-party county that long been the most-corrupt in the state. Which means that he apparently writes a lot of letters requesting clemency for his friends, many of whom he also lobbied while they were elected municipal officials before they were arrested and frog-marched out in handcuffs.

Florida Democratic Party Alex Sink, Nan Rich and Charlie Crist? The Three Stooges.

Miami Herald's management and editorial staff, esp. those responsible for local news and schools coverage.

Fact checking the Miami Herald's dubious claims on Education: Over the weekend, I unexpectedly found myself forced to 'school' the Herald's Executive Editor after she bragged about the Herald's coverage of Education. I had to bring up some inconvenient facts rebutting that claim
http://hallandalebeachblog.blogspot.com/2012/09/fact-checking-miami-heralds-dubious.html

So when are the Miami Herald and the South Sun-Sentinel going to note the elephant in the room in Hallandale Beach? The ethics of and the complete lack of candor from Hallandale Beach Comm. Anthony A. Sanders & his wife Jessica; Mayor Cooper and Comm. Sanders screw with public's access to HB budget meetings; @MayorCooper, @SandersHB

http://hallandalebeachblog.blogspot.com/2012/08/so-when-are-miami-herald-and-south-sun.html

Is there anyone in South Florida media with lower visibility than Miami Herald publisher David Landsberg? What are his specific plans for transforming the newspaper so it doesn't remain
irrelevant to what goes on in South Florida, seemingly always the last to know something or report something?

What's going on at the Miami Herald? More than a year after the last one fled, the Herald still lacks an Ombudsman -and shows no sign of getting one- to represent readers deep concerns about bias, misrepresentation and flackery on behalf of South Florida's powerful & privileged at the Herald. And that's just one of many unresolved problems there...

For another consistently lousy year of journalism at the Miami Herald, esp. covering Broward County, more lumps of coal in the Christmas stocking of One Herald Plaza -Part 1

South Florida Sun-Sentinel's management and editorial staff, particularly those directly responsible for unsatisfactory local news and school coverage, esp. the editors, reporters and columnists who have shown over the years that they are nothing more than lapdogs for Rep. Debbie Wasserman-Schultz.
OMG! Really, another interview with predictable Debbie Wasserman-Schultz on Channel 10's TWISF tomorrow? Why? Will there be any mention of the Sun-Sentinel STILL ignoring the Glenn Thrush book's depiction of DWS's unpopularity at Obama HQ in Chicago?; Sun-Sentinel has completely morphed into the Snooze-Sentinel! It's now more of an idea of a newspaper, and a bad one at that, rather than a newspaper you actually look forward to reading

Above,  501 N.W. 1st Avenuewhich in Hallandale Beach polite society and public policy circles is considered THE most egregious example of dozens of exasperating and highly-questionable examples of dubious government spending and crony capitalism that've taken place on Mayor Joy Cooper's watch, and one of the most dubious of any in Broward County, which is REALLY saying something. It's the infamous former property owned by HB Comm. Anthony A. Sanders that has seen so many tens of thousands of Hallandale Beach taxpayer dollars and CRA dollars poured into it. For what, THISphoto by South Beach Hoosier © 2012 Hallandale Beach Blog, All Rights Reserved

Myopic and inattentive City of Hallandale Beach mayor Joy Cooper and the three members of her Cooper Rubber Stamp Crew on the City Commission, who thru their continued negligence and actual unwillingness to perform basic oversight functions and be strictly accountable to, and honest with, taxpayers, have made what should be one of the nicest parts of Broward County into something that is NOT.
See numerous stories proving this at  http://www.browardbulldog.org/?s=hallandale

The city's budget has nearly doubled the past 6 years and what is there to show for it? What is the tangible thing that taxpayers can look at or feel? And the same is true with the money that the city has wasted from the CRA thru grants and loans to their pals thru crony capitalism.
Karma has big plans for them!

Myopic City of Hallandale Beach Police Chief Dwayne Fluornoy and his top-heavy dept. with enough psychological and relationship problems to keep Freud and Jung busy for a year. That they also are guilty of speeding in inappropriate places around town and are routinely inattentive to basic self-evident safety problems all around the city, esp. on the city's main three roads, makes it all the worse.
Some Cops Given A Pass If Caught By Red Light Cameras
http://miami.cbslocal.com/2012/04/22/some-cops-given-a-pass-if-caught-by-red-light-cameras/

Their complete abdication to Mayor Cooper on the red-light camera issue was proof positive to many people who formerly gave them the benefit of the doubt that the Police Dept. is now hopelessly and morally compromised. The next police chief needs to come from outside of the Dept., preferably, from far away!
There are still far too too many mediocre cops in this city with chippy attitudes.

Pampered City of Hallandale Beach Fire Dept. Daniel Sullivan and the dept. that regularly uses a fire truck to buy groceries at Publix and seems a little too chippy.
Oh, and they also don't cite businesses for violations of fire safety regs that are pro-City Hall or give money to PAL.

City of Hallandale Beach DPW Director Hector Castro and his lazy and unprofessional staff, who for years have made this city a mess for the eye to behold and given new meaning to the word underwhelming, especially with their horrific care of the city's public beaches.
That's why, if you didn't already know, why embarrassed HB residents refuse to take visiting family and friends to HB's beach on holidays and go instead up to nearby Hollywood Beach,  which is why that beach is SO crowded then.
Hundreds and hundreds of embarrassed Hallandale Beach residents and their guests, spending money there instead of their own city.
Another Joy Cooper success story.

Oh, Charlie! Trending at Hallandale Beach Blog -for good reason!: Tracy Spiridakos in NBC's "Revolution" and Jordana Spiro in Fox's "Mob Doctor"; #RevolutionNBC, @trspiridakos

Revolution, Pilot: After 15 years of darkness, an unlikely trio sets out on a journey to save the world. Above, Tracy Spiridakos as "Charlie Matheson." Originally aired September 17, 2012. http://www.nbc.com/revolution/video/pilot/1415378/
Learn it, live it, love it!

In case you missed last week's pilot episode, here it is up at the top, so get your homework done in time for tonight's new episode, Chained Heat, with guest star C. Thomas Howell, most recently seen on TNT's "Southland," another favorite of ours, which returns in February.

Yes, another All-American girl -from Canada!
http://www.nbc.com/revolution/

And don't forget to watch "Mob Doctor" on Fox-TV at 9 p.m. starring the immensely-likable and moxie-filled Jordana Spiro, whom we at the blog have liked for the longest time, and want to see stay on network TV. All I'm saying is give the show some time to find its legs and get into more character development, and don't be so hasty with your evaluations based on what you may've heard. It has a lot of potential and has an excellent cast.

Jordana Spiro reminds us SO MUCH of one of our very best friends from IU, a Midwestern girl don't you know, whom we miss terribly, but whose name we do NOT dare mention here for fear that she will start blushing. http://www.fox.com/the-mob-doctor/

Then flip back to TNT at 11 pm after Revolution to see the new episode of Major Crimes.

And speaking of "Charlie's" we like -Tracy Spiridakos as "Charlie Matheson" on Revolutionwhen we were younger, another "Charlie" we liked very much was so popular and ubiquitous that if you just hummed the first few bars of of the Revlon commercial tune, EVERYONE in the room knew exactly what that it was. EVERYONE!
Now there was a Madison Avenue ad campaign for the ages!

Revlon's "Charlie" fragrance TV commercial with model/actress Shelly Hack and singer/musician Bobby Short from 1976.

This was the sort of TV commercial that made every normal 15-year old boy in America who saw it wish that he was already 25 -and had a charming and sexy woman like Shelley Hack, who couldn't wait to see him
And trust me, everyone in the place envies you!

The closest I ever had to having this sort of "Charlie" moment came when my then-girlfriend, a brilliant and blonde stunner named Joanie, danced into a J.B. Winberie restaurant in downtown Evanston for our second date.
Only one of the greatest second dates of all-time, all four hours of it.

(Afterwards, when we were at her place, the second thing I remember about that night was that it was the night of a Dolphins-Raiders nationally-televised pre-season game, which is how I came to be able to watch it in the Chicago area.)

But only ten years later, in 1986, it just wasn't the same...

Why someone hasn't come up with a variation of the original 1976 simple-but-wildly-effective ad for Norah Jones as the singer, the pianist and the "Charlie" -or whatever- I can't say, because she'd be absolutely PERFECT!

Dennis Miller says he not only is NOT undecided, he's "over-decided" for Mitt Romney; opines on Sandra Fluke and the contrived issue of the "war on women"; the role of individual responsibility in combating unemployment and slumping U.S. economy and NOT allowing the govt. to have so much control over your life; the 2012 U.S. presidential campaign

Amusing and pithy as always, appearing this past week on Fox News' The O'Reilly Factor, Dennis Miller, opinionated comedian and host of the nationally-syndicated radio program, "The Dennis Miller Show," told host Bill O'Reilly that he not only is NOT undecided, he's "over-decided" for Mitt Romney. He also discussed President Obama's appearance on CBS-TV's the "Late Show with David Letterman" and the softball questions he received while a guest there, and spoke about the 2012 election campaign. Appearing three weeks earlier on NBC-TV's  “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno,”  Dennis told Jay what he really thought about Sandra Fluke and the Democratic party's contrived issue of the "GOP "war on women " in order to solidify their base of young female voters; taxpayer-funded government programs and the distinction he makes between helping people who are genuinely in need of help, and helping the merely clueless, who feel they can use the govt. as a hammock to support them when it's convenient. The Hallandale Beach corollary to Paul Roderick Gregory's savvy piece at Forbes.com re the news media's assumptions & bias: What If 'President' McCain Was Running For Re-Election Against 'Senator' Obama?; What if 'Mayor' London was running for re-election against 'Comm.' Cooper?; @MayorCooper

Above, Hallandale Beach City Hall and Police Dept. HQ. September 4, 2012 photo by South Beach Hoosier. © 2012 Hallandale Beach Blog, All Rights Reserved

Well, someone else thought of my brilliant idea that came to me while watching the Republican and Democratic National Conventions over the past month, to show the rather self-evident Mainstream Media's assumptions, bias and even lack-of-curiosity, Paul Roderick Gregoryand he got it printed it at Forbes.comwhich I've got at the bottom of this post and encourage you to send to friends.

Reading what Gregory wrote a couple of times over had the salutary effect of causing me to re-purpose in my own head some of the central questions at the heart of his and the current political campaign here in Hallandale Beach.
Which is how I come before you today and ask you to ponder the question: What if 'Mayor' London was running for re-election against 'Comm.' Cooper?

Yes, it really DOES make you think, doesn't it?

Especially about all the negative, anti-democratic and just plain nonsensical things that we have all borne witness to and endured, and know for a fact happened to Hallandale Beach residents and business owners due specifically to Mayor Joy Cooper's own illogical words, vengeful actions and thin-skinned ego.

Ones that the local south Florida news media have largely decided didn't happen because they weren't there in person to observe first-hand.
Yet all of us can recite them from memory, can't we?

The press corps' thinking seems to be that if Mayor Cooper really calls a citizen minding his own business and sitting in his seat at a City Commission meeting -yours truly- a "Nazi" in a conversation to perpetually disconnected then-Comm. Bill Julian, did it really happen if a reporter wasn't there?

Yes, it happened and does happen, regardless of whether or not a reporter, columnist or TV cameraman is there -especially when a reporter is NOT there- but to them, no, not really, it's just an "allegation."
We are the Broward capital of "allegations" that really happened

Towards that end, in the next few days, because of an email I received from a very well-known and cutting-edge web hosting company, one that's offering a huge discount, I'll have a constructive suggestion and tip to share with those of you who've spoken to me over the past 18 months about starting a blog or website of your own, to share your thoughts -and document- what happens in this city, this area and this part of the Sunshine State.

Especially since neither Change Hallandale and Save Hallandale have posted anything new since last year.

That'd be a good thing for everyone in the community, esp. as long as CRA funds are funneled to a fake newspaper that consciously chooses NOT to report what is really going on here for fear of offending Mayor Cooper, who -along with her husband- has previously threatened the fake newspaper's owners, even to the point of threatening to put them out of business.

It really did happen, but I guess because a reporter wasn't there, it's only an "allegation."
Personally, I'm guessing it sure didn't seem like just an "allegation" to the person on the receiving end of the pointed verbal threats from Mayor Cooper and her husband.

Speaking of blogs and websites:
a.) have you come across this interesting one yet, Hallandale Truth? http://hallandaletruth.com/

b.) I was going to mention this about a week ago but I've taken the opportunity to look at Michele Lazarow's new campaign website and it's VERY well-done and put together.
Michele's website  is at: http://michelelazarow.com/

Her campaign's Facebook page is at:

c.) If you didn't see my post about it a few weeks ago, Csaba Kulin's campaign website is at http://www.kulin2012.com/

Csaba told me that his plan is to try to update it fairly frequently and write about what's going on now in Hallandale Beach -or what isn't and ought to be, like Comm. Sanders and Bill Julian agreeing to actually show-up in public for an old-fashioned debate, where those two can be PUBLICLY asked questions that they've been dodging for YEARS.

Csaba doesn't plan on letting his website remain static for the next six-and-a-half weeks, and he's already shown me some of what he's written after months of research about the city's finances and its ticking pension time-bomb.
Words that I think you'll all find of great interest!

What If 'President' McCain Was Running For Re-Election Against 'Senator' Obama?
9/15/2012 @ 2:12AM
Imagine John McCain, having eked out a narrow victory in 2008, running for reelection against Illinois Senator Barack Obamaunder today’s economic and foreign policy circumstances. The following would be  a sample triumphant press report – New York Times,Washington Post, LA Times, what have you — dated Saturday September 15:
“President John McCain’s reelection bid is tottering on the verge of collapse. The raising of the black flag over the Cairo Embassy, the killing of the U.S. ambassador in Libya, and the outburst of violent protests throughout the Mid East appear to be the coup de grace to McCain’s faltering campaign.

Stupendous times ten! Tom Hooper's 'Les Misérables' looks absolutely, ridiculously AMAZING! Frankly, after looking at how rapturous Les Misérables looks, as much as I love Baz Luhrmannn's genius and inventiveness and was looking forward to seeing his production of The Great Gatsby at Christmas, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire and the always-amazing Carey Mulligan, now that word has come this morning -below- that the film has been moved to May 10th, I can't help but wonder what Loopper would've done with Fitzgerald's Gatsby.

I say this after having seen the Gatsby teasers online and then the most recent trailer for it a few weeks back, something I meant to mention here in this space.
Seriously, when I actually heard the rap music at the beginning of a film about Long Island in the 1920's, I positively cringed.
Cringed!

Can there be no end in sight to this trend of forcing inappropriate popular music on a subject just because you can get permission to use a song or the singer is a friend?

http://youtu.be/rARN6agiW7o

Unfortunately, by the fifth time I watched it, I got the very strong sense that characterization and plot development would take a back-seat to over-the-top scenes of opulence, which almost every good director can do with a large enough budget.
By the time I saw the trailer for the sixth time, a week after seeing it for the first time, I felt like I not only didn't want to see the film, I didn't want to even see another film at a multiplex that was right next to it.

Being creative and magical with characters, giving movie-goers insight into their inner struggles or personality development, that's the thing I look for.
It's what Luhrmann did so well with the ridiculously-talented Nicole Kidman in Moulin Rouge, in that despite all the visual and musical flourishes, her character just jumps out at you and makes you want to care about her.

No matter what else you want to convey to an audience, that's especially got to be the case in a film based on a book I've read dozens of times.
Not just the most-American novel of the past 100 years, the best one.

It seems that tens of thousands of other film fans around the world who have seen the Gatsby
trailer have come to the same conclusion regarding the rap music, since it's typically the first thing that comes up in a conversation or email: How could they?
As presently constructed, based on the outlines we've seen thru teasers and trailers, I have serious doubts about the film's ability to draw-in movie-goers over age 35.

A perfect end to a perfect Wednesday night thinking about ethics: Jennifer Gottlieb and Eleanor Sobel FINALLY get exposed; hot pizza, cold Heineken beer, '80's fave Lisa Whelchel on "Survivor," and reading some of the fascinating Grand Jury testimony re Beachside Montessori Village; Miami Herald: Records in Broward schools investigation reveal affairs; #BeachsideMontessoriVillage

Nineteen months later, I haven't forgotten how pitiful it was to watch the organized group of brainwashed Beachside Montessori Moms in attendance that night cheer Gottlieb and Murray's serial lies, spouting their Kool-Aid nonsense that denied the self-evident reality of how the school came into being and how it came to be the particular way it was - racial whitewash.

Yes, the same two School Board members from next-door Hollywood who couldn't be bothered to attend the long-in-the-planning event at the Hallandale Beach Cultural Center four months later in June of 2011 on the longstanding funding/physical problems at Hallandale High School, where the parents and taxpayers got a chance to vent as well as hear from some of the original litigants in the successful lawsuit against the Broward Schools to end the unequal funding.

My friends Csaba Kulin, Catherine Kim Owens and myself were the only objective people from Hallandale Beach in attendance that night in Hollywood to see the entire dog-and-pony show, which sadly, only Channel 7 bothered to cover, despite the opportunity to ask two people with some real culpability for the whole sordid mess to explain in their own words what had really happened.

The devastating article that the Miami Herald is printing in its Thursday edition -see at bottom- regarding the unethical conduct of former Broward County School Board member Jennifer Gottlieb leads me to make the following observation:

Bob Norman: 1
Miami HeraldSouth Florida Sun-SentinelChannels 4, 6, 7 & 10: 0
Bob Norman wins.

Here's my post of July 26, 2010 on the subject that remains one of the most-read posts I've had in over five years:
Weeks later, Miami Herald, Sun-Sentinel & Miami TV newscasts STILL consciously ignoring Bob Norman's spot-on story re School Board's Jennifer Gottlieb

The latter members of the South Florida press corps were, sadly for of us, all too gutless to print or report on TV what some of them knew, she was putting taxpayers at risk, so instead of simply reporting the news and letting readers or viewers people draw their own conclusions, news reporters here didn't just actively avoid reporting the news -they actively suppressed it!
Surprise! Welcome to Egypt!

Meanwhile, all the timethe Herald's supposed Education reporter at the time, Patricia Mazzei, well, she "knows nothing, nothing" -just like Sgt, Schultz!

But then as many of you know from prior conversations with me where I have cited specific articles of her's and the subjects, among people I know and trust, Mazzei is better known for what she consciously chooses NOT to report, rather than what she writes.
Which helps readers how, exactly?

Two months ago I saw Mazzei at a M-D County Commission meeting in the chaotic and almost-Third Worldly Steve Clark Bldg. in downtown Miami, and it was all I could do to not to laugh hysterically when I saw her just a few feet away from me, thinking about all the interesting facts and points I'd heard at the meeting we'd both been awake for, but which I knew she'd make sure never saw the light of day in the newspaper, leaving readers in the dark yet again.
Mazzei would make a very good "minder" in North Korea.

This Herald article below, two years too late, comes as the perfect end of a perfect Wednesday night thinking about ethics: hot pizza, cold Heineken beer, '80's fave Lisa Whelchel on "Survivor," and reading some of the fascinating Grand Jury testimony re

My favorite so far?
Someone under oath posited that mendacious former Broward County School Board member Eleanor Sobel wanted to use the school "to bolster  her campaign for the Florida Senate."

That's 100% believable because that's the same woman who had the nerve to actually use a HB City Commission meeting as an opportunity to get signatures from the audience -during the meeting- so she could run for School Board, even though we all 'knew' she'd not stay, and was just using that job to get a salary and govt. pension while waiting to run for Steve Geller's Senate seat.
And that's what she did, isn't it?

I know that we're all still waiting to see Norman's promised interview with our mendacious mayor Joy Cooper on his blog on Channel 10's website re the city's red-light camera report that repudiates everything she's been saying, and her receiving mayoral campaign contributions from the Arizona firm spearheading that RLC effort in South Florida, American Traffic Solutionsjust days after she wrote an essay in support of red-light cameras in the Sun-Sentinel.

Yeah, I guess nobody at the Sun-Sentinel had the good sense to ask truth-averse Cooper

if she'd received any campaign contributions from the firm when the paper asked her to write essay. Oops!!!

That was real nice of the firm to wait until AFTER Cooper wrote a pro-RLC Op-Ed before giving her thousands and thousands of dollars. And damn convenient, eh?
That's how Joy Cooper rolls!

By the way, for those of you who didn't get the word earlier today, some other things have come up, so my long-in-the-works blog post that publicly crushes Hallandale Beach beat reporters, the Sun-Sentinel's Tonya Alanez & Herald's Carli Teproff, for their longstanding lack of curiosity and attention to detail -esp. re Comm. Sanders and the ethical scandal that has been swirling around him and his wife Jessica for the past three years, and specifically, his abject refusal to meet with HB taxpayers and tell them the truth- originally slated to appear this week, will appear on Saturday or Sunday morning instead.

Trust me, it's NOT going to be very pretty for them, but then given their dismal track record covering news here, of almost going out of their ways at time to avoid reporting what was right in front of them, a fact which has ill-served Hallandale Beach residents who want real reform and transparency at Hallandale Beach City Hall, how could it be otherwise?

By Michael Vasquez

While still in office, former Broward School Board member Jennifer Gottlieb engaged in two different romantic affairs with men who worked for a company doing business with the school district, according to law enforcement records now made public.
Florida Department of Law Enforcement records show that two employees of Citigroup, which was hired to help Broward finance bonds used to build schools, admitted to sexual trysts with Gottlieb.

I saw former Broward School Board Member Jennifer Gottlieb at a kids' event not long ago and she mentioned that the controversial school she helped build in her city of Hollywood, Beachside Montessori Village, was rated third-best in the state for FCAT scores.
I thought about saying, "Yeah, it's amazing what $20 million in taxpayers' money can do."
