Is Hallandale Beach Comm. Alexander Lewy -Lewy the Liar- running for FL House 100 in 2014? Yes, but opponents/voters have a treasure trove of evidence to show why he's a poor choice to represent anyone anywhere, given his uncontrollable know-it-all personality and pro-govt. mindset, and penchant for always thinking he knows best, even when self-evident facts show why he's wrong; Friends Helping Friends Dept.: Last Tuesday Lewy was honored by group at the same address he voted to give $200k CRA loan to (that still owed taxpayers money for previous loan) and voted $50k to just weeks ago. Plus, another deal for Rabbi Tennenhaus; @AlexLewy

Today, after being in cold storage for a week, I'm posting an expanded and corrected version of my email of last Tuesday to some folks in and around South Florida who like knowing what's really going on around here, instead of waiting for the South Florida news media to stumble across it.

-----

If it's not too much trouble, could someone from the South Florida news media please ask Hallandale Beach Comm. Lewy what specific day he's going to make it official and file his paperwork with the Broward Supervisor of Election's office to run for FL House District 100 next year against Joe Geller?

I mention this because Lewy the Liar doesn't do coy very well.

With lobbyists like Bernie Friedman in attendance last Tueday night, Alexander Lewy could well have chosen to make that expected announcement then, with everyone saying what a great guy he is, notwithstanding all evidence to the contrary -like his own words and actions, in and out of office.

Like, well to name but five or 7 anti-Hallandale Beach taxpayer and anti-HB homeowner issues I can think of off the top of my head:

a.) Lewy supported the Joy Cooper-led HB City Commission in their vote for the Diplomat LAC in 2009 over the neighborhood's strenuous objections, which is part of why he received campaign contributions from the Westin Diplomat's law firm when he ran for the City Commission a second time after the Broward County Commission killed the incompatible plan in early 2010.

b.) Despite Northeast HB neighborhood residents being overwhelming AGAINST Mayor's Cooper's absurd and un-safe proposal to make two-way streets out of N.E. 8th & 10th Avenues between Hallandale beach Blvd. and atlatic Shores Blvd., Lewy initially supported it
and chastised NE HB residents who opposed it.
But the plan was so lacking in both common sense and safety that in the end it wasn't just the NE neighborhood residents who were AGAINST it, but even the sleepwalking geniuses over at Gulfstream Park, who woke-up long enough to feel obliged to publicly speak out AGAINST what he and the mayor wanted;

c.) Lewy has supported the expansion of the city's VERY, VERY unpopular Red-Light Camera operation, a policy that is so unpopular in this city that it was the number-one cited complaint on a questionnaire for HB residents according to an independently-run survey the city paid for. But he didn't care and has continued to support the policy,

d.) Lewy supported the Ben Gamla Hebrew Charter School being placed in a largely single-family NE Hallandale Beach neighborhood over the neighborhood's reasonable and common sense objections, despite the fact that students from HB would've been in the strong minority of overall students attending, meaning that it would not have been a neighborhood school but a drop-off site for out-of-town people, with the neighborhood getting all the problems and little positive in exchange,

e.) Last summer Lewy saw nothing at all wrong with voting on The Beachwalk development project next to the Intracoastal Bridge in August -a project which the city's Planning & Zoning Advisory Board unanimously rejected- despite the fact that most of the affected homeowners in the neighborhood were out-of-town, rather than simply wait 2-4 weeks, so they could actually show-up in-person and have their say about what they and their families will have to live with forever -a 31-story building.

f.) Lewy has publicly stated that despite the fact that the entirety of the city's CRA District does NOT reside within Northwest HB, he DOES believe that almost all of the city's the CRA funds should go there.

That this would be contrary to state law and sound public policy and likely lead to lawsuits the city would lose probably makes no difference to him, seeing as how he's consistently shown thru his actions that he believes that it's his job for as much of Hallandale Beach taxpayer and CRA funds to wind-up in northwest HB.

g.) Who can forget Lewy's attempt in July of 2011 to funnel $200,000 to Comm. Anthony A. Sanders' group, Eagles Wings, after midnight at a meeting with few members of the public present and WITHOUT his actually saying their name?

You remember, don't you?

August 27, 2012

To prevent repeat performances of Hallandale Beach Comm. Alexander Lewy's egregious post-Midnight gambit last July to funnel over $200k to Comm. Anthony A. Sanders' Eagles Wings, the new process for funding community nonprofit groups in a suburban Beltway county is precisely what Hallandale Beach needs to emulate; Jeremy Borden in Wash. Post: Prince William changes how it will fund nonprofit groups
http://hallandalebeachblog.blogspot.com/2012/08/to-prevent-repeat-performances-of.html

Time after time, Lewy has proven that Hallandale Beach residents and small business owners' initial negative feelings and perceptions of him were correct all along -he was exactly what he seemed to them: a career politician in-training who planned on using them as a stepping-stone.

This fact has been proven repeatedly as concerned residents found themselves face-to-face with him on public policy matters,
As the concerned residents from Northeast HB can attest to, more times than they could count, they've been condescendingly told by Lewy that THEY had "their facts all wrong" when it was actually Lewy who was wrong.

That refusal of Lewy's last August to even consider delaying the first hearing on The Beachwalk for less than a month, something that I honestly thought that even he would be smart enough to see the wisdom of, really left a bitter taste in the mouths of many Hallandale Beach residents who live in that area.

But what Lewy and his band of acolytes fails to understand is how much other concerned HB residents see that refusal to do the right thing as yet another piece of the puzzle in revealing Lewy's true nature, and the larger picture that is his CONSISTENT unwillingness to put the interests of HB residents and homeowners first -and above real estate developers.

In every case, Alexander Lewy has supported real estate developers, NOT the interests of Hallandale Beach residents, parents, home owners and small business owners.
Those were his votes and his opinions and he now owns them for posterity.

It's hard not to notice who almost always seems to come in second with him.
It's also hard not to notice over time that he seems to prefer the momentary flash and illusory pretense that he's an important player who gets to make important decisions, instead of the more low-key and more important role of one of five people in this city entrusted to provide genuine oversight over an unwieldy and generally poorly-performing city bureaucracy that fails too consistently taxpayers.
But we know why, and that's because Lewy genuinely loves government bureaucracy.

In my view and that of many others in this community, Lewy keeps making the wrong decision and keep putting the wrong parties first in part because Alexander Lewy is as stridently pro-government and anti-taxpayer and resident as any politician in South Florida could possibly be in the year 2013.

That strikes me as a very poor starting-point for a candidacy, especially for someone who's actually done very little of consequence or accomplishment in two years in office, and something which even an opponent of average intelligence will no doubt exploit to the fullest.
Lewy has certainly provided the public and any 2014 opponent with an overwhelming mountain of evidence to prove just that.

-----

In 2011, a group at the same address as last Tuesday's get-together, Chaya Aydel Seminary, was given a $200k loan for property improvements on property that they didn't even own themselves, under the guise of it creating "jobs."

NOT that the city has ever checked to see how many jobs, if any, were actually "created" as a result of CRA loans, as last week's Broward Inspector General report mentioned.
http://hallandalebeachblog.blogspot.com/2011/05/why-joy-coopers-rubber-stamp-crew-set.html

This, even though this organization STILL hadn't entirely repaid a previous loan from the city.
Must be nice to have such good friends with money to lend!
And with such generous 15% forgiveness terms!

The first link is to the city's staff report, the second is to their support documents.

See my May 23, 2011 blog post on that agenda item:
Why? Joy Cooper's Rubber Stamp Crew set to give $200k in CRA loan to entity that fails to meet city's OWN RULES; may already owe $170K from past loan!
http://hallandalebeachblog.blogspot.com/2011/05/why-joy-coopers-rubber-stamp-crew-set.html

Just a few short weeks ago, Rabbi Raphael Tennenhaus, the person who, in all reality, was  the real host of last Tuesday's event, was the recipient of CRA largess to the tune of $50k for purposes that many if not most in this city have a hard time wrapping their heads around.

Which is to say, is there's really THAT MUCH drug abuse going on among Senior Citizens in HB, and it's such a problem, why has it never been publicly mentioned before at a City Commission or CRA meeting?
Very curious...

Should the HB City Commission, acting as the HB CRA, really be giving money to yet another group, for a problem that few who here really thinks exists, and to quote the city's own documents, "However, the statistical impact on Hallandale Beach/HBCRA District

specifically was not provided."

On the face of their own documents, they seem to have almost nobody with either a medical or Social Work background involved:

More recently, just two weeks ago, yet another Rabbi named Tennenhaus, Levi Tennenhauswho is also associated with that very same address, was the name party in another CRA agenda item, one that gave him and his wife a real financial break, too.

Below, in blue, are some excerpts from a Draft of comments written by my friend and HB civic activist Csaba Kulin, who was at that CRA meeting, who wrote his thoughts down for the benefit of myself and others who didn't attend the meeting.
I've slightly tightened it up here-and-there for grammatical and syntax purposes, but it's well over 99.99% Csaba's hard work.

The points Csaba makes are just as fundamentally sound now as they were when he first wrote them down, and echo many of the very same points that he and I and many others in this community have been making for many years regarding how things are routinely done in Hallandale Beach.

Which is to say, why do so many things involving financial grants and loans from the city's CRA and City Commission seem to only benefit a small handful of people, and not just any people, but rather ones who are 'connected' and who have some degree of either social, financial or political pull in this community, especially the latter?

And why is it that the average Hallandale Beach taxpayer and small business owner always seems to come up last on the Totem Pole when it comes to the City Commission/CRA's priorities, compared to their friends and political allies?

Comm. Julian wanted to ask questions about 9 A, the Levi Tenenhaus item. Julian said that he has not seen that as one of the entities getting a grant. He was 100% right to ask questions. I have never seen the Tennenhaus item before, it was not part of the other items. Julian just asked for a simple explanation and he did not get a straight answer. I would love to hear a bit more about it.

The way I understand, the applicant got the $40,000 First-time homeowner loan in 2010 to purchase a $215,000 house. The questions in 2010 should have been, was he a first time home owner or just a first time home buyer in HB? Did he really in need the $40,000 or it was just nice to get it? That is water under the bridge, we cannot talk about it, but I'd like to know. It was probably one of the 350 “exceptions” mentioned in the last audit.
The City/CRA had a second mortgage, on the property to insure that the City/CRA gets re-paid in case of a default. Mr. Tennenhaus wants to expend the house and in order to get a loan he wants HB/HBCRA to "subordinate" its claim to the lender giving the loan. With the construction loan added, the loan amount exceeds 80% of the appraised value and it is NOT allowed.

Now, here comes HB/HBCRA to the rescue. We do NOT care if HB/HBCRA gets repaid, as long as the lender of the construction loan gets repaid.

The CM/ED said "no fiscal impact at THIS time". True, but do you think a "second" mortgage is worth as much as a "third" mortgage? I do NOT think so. We will see it in the future.
Just some things to think about today as you wonder why this city that clearly ought to be so much better and attractive than it is now, remains in such state of funk and confusion.

More Red-Light Camera shenanigans: National Journal's Mike Magner has warning for U.S. drivers about unscrupulous cities' amber-colored money trap: Yellow means Green & $$$ - "Dreaded Yellow Light May Be Trap for Traffic Violations" -on purpose. More Red-Light Camera shenanigans: National Journal's Mike Magner has warning for U.S. drivers about unscrupulous cities' amber-colored money trap: Yellow means Green & $$$ - "Dreaded Yellow Light May Be Trap for Traffic Violations" -on purpose. And Rahm Emanuel's Chicago, with Redflex Traffic Systems Inc., is the most brazen of all

Now here's a story that someone like me who lives in the city that's the red-light camera poster boy of South Florida can really appreciate.
A city where the mayor, Joy Cooper, writes guest Op-Eds in a local newspaper praising red-light cameras, despite it NOT leading to a reduction in traffic accidents, and weeks later, she's receiving thousands in campaign contributions from the vendor here with the red-light camera contract. Why?
Because she and her Rubber Stamp Crew on the City Commission like the revenue it produce$!

The National Motorists Association has a warning for the millions of drivers hitting the road for the busy holiday travel season: Beware of the yellow lights.
The timing of yellow lights on traffic signals at many intersections is purposely set to a minimum so more drivers can be ticketed for running red lights, says the 30-year-old activist group based in Waunakee, Wis.

re South Florida Sun-Sentinel:When are Broward County residents FINALLY going to get the "whole truth" from the Tribune Company's South Florida Sun-Sentinel and some public explanation for their continued reluctance to report it and useful context in Broward County news? Their problems with facts & bias are getting worse by the month; Joy Cooper's red-light camera friends and supporters; Sun-Sentinel's pro-Debbie Wasserman-Schultz bias is a continuing insult to readers; @MayorCooper

I sent the following email on Friday to some of the known members of what for lack of a better word I'm calling the "Central Editorial and Management Brain" of The Tribune Company's South Florida Sun-Sentinel, though it is, admittedly, somewhat incomplete since the Sun-Sentinel does not currently list it's own top management executives and Dept. heads on its own website. Oh, well.
You work with what you have.

You can well imagine why they choose to keep readers in the dark about who is responsible for the final product, much less, their contact information.
No, you're right.
They're not so big on transparency when it comes to themselves as when they rail against others.

I should think that at this point, regular readers of the blog hardly need me repeat here and now why it was sent, as the email is pretty self-explanatory -and long overdue.
And the fun is just beginning...

I've deleted the email addresses below.
-----

Subject: When are Broward readers going to get the entire truth from you? re South Florida Sun-Sentinel's continued reluctance to report the truth and useful context in Broward County
To: Dana Banker, Rosemary Goudreau, Gary Stein, Douglas Lyons
Cc: Michael Mayo, Brittany Wallman, Brittany,
And to the following management executives from the Miami Herald: Aminda Marques, Rick Hirsch

October 26, 2012

Dear Messrs Banker, Goudreau, Stein & Lyons:

I'll be honest.
I'm writing today to get you to admit the truth, because the truth has been sadly absent or elusive from far too many stories, columns and editorials over the past year in the Sun-Sentinel, and curiosity has been M.I.A.
Frankly, the truth seems to have become a much lower priority for Sun-Sentinel the past few months in its news accounts of local government and politics.

Since I still have a lot of errands to run this afternoon, I'll mention just two here out of the many that I'm already personally aware of.

#! 1 - Before the Sun-Sentinel printed Hallandale Beach Mayor Joy Cooper's Op-Ed on July 22, 2012, supporting both the idea of and the expansion of red-light cameras throughout South Florida,
did anyone from your Editorial Board or senior management think to ask her whether or not she had received or expected to receive campaign contributions from any company associated with that particular issue?

I ask because shortly after you provided Cooper with that giant platform to sing the praises of something that has NOT worked in this city -despite her aggressive manhandling efforts to cram it down the collective throats of Hallandale Beach residents, something proven by a report issued by the city weeks ago that  showed there actually was an increase in accidents
Mayor Cooper received several thousands of dollars from Arizona-based ATSAmerican Traffic Solutions, the very company that installed their equipment here in Hallandale Beach.

Was Cooper ever asked whether or not ATS had ever paid for any meal or given her any gift while she was the elected President of the Florida League of Cities, or whether they gave the League any money before or while she was President and had the cameras installed in Hallandale Beach, when they were desperately scouring the state looking for pliable Florida pols to initiate it in their communities as a money-maker for them and the city, even while
arguing that it would decrease accidents?

If not, why not?
Why has your newspaper refused to mention these easily-verified facts in the three months since that her words appeared in-print and online?

2. For months, your newspaper has refused to make mention of a negative story involving Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz that has appeared in newspapers large and small throughout the United States.

The story concerned the-then new e-book written by the POLITICO's Glenn Thrush on the 2012 presidential campaign.
The short version of the story is that among employees at Obama HQ in Chicago, DWS was by far their least-favorite Obama surrogate.
Not earth-shattering news, of course, but still news, especially for your newspaper given where it is distributed.
In fact, it's actually much more newsy than most of the pieces you run on DWS, of which there are too many in my opinion, as opposed to the almost complete lack of anything mentioning Frederica Wilson, who for another 11 days represents me and tens of thousands of your readers.

(You were certainly late to catching onto the fact that she had among the ten worst attendance records in the entire U.S. Congress in 2011, even before her surgery.
And what bills has Wilson sponsored in two years that have moved anywhere?
None.)

It's quite noticeable that your newspaper, the local newspaper for her purposes, has, on too many occasions, gone out of its way to avoid printing it, mentioning the Thrush e-book or even alluding to it in articles, columns, essays, blogs or Letters to the Editor.
I know because I have actively looked for any signs of it -to no avail- even after checking your archives.
I checked hoping I was wrong and just missed it -nope, I was correct.
You never mentioned it.

It's almost like there's an invisible shield around the newspaper, or more accurately, a choke-collar around editors' collective throats, that interferes from treating this particular elected official like any other.

But an arm's-length relationship with her seems to be something that your newspaper seems incapable of achieving because it acts like it wants so very much more.

Frankly, that sort of continual submissiveness in a newspaper does nothing for its current and longstanding reputation among readers of not just being a lapdog for all things DWS, but practically being a member of her Inner Circle, a Golden Lapdog or whatever she calls people or groups she plays for fools.

Yes, there are many, many intelligent and well-informed people in South Florida who believe that she has you right where she wants you -on a short-leash.
The central problem is that you think it's out of affection, while she no doubt sees it as neutralizing the one newspaper that is most likely to print her foibles and problems and have them broadcast far beyond her congressional district.

(Though you may not think so, or like the comparison, among people who ARE paying attention in HB and Hollywood with respect to your coverage of DWS, your newspaper is viewed no differently than the taxpayer-subsidized faux newspaper in HB, the South Florida Sun-Times, in its fawning coverage of Mayor Joy Cooper, who, along with her husband, previously threatened to run the owners out of business many years ago after they printed something that was just slightly critical of her.)

(I didn't have that article handy when I sent Friday's email but have since found it.
It was a guest column that appeared on December 4, 2003, written by then-Hallandale Beach City Commissioner Anthony "Tony" Musto, and it was titled, appropriately enough, "Is there really a magic act going on in Hallandale Beach?"
In it's next-to-last paragraph re the state's Sunshine Laws and the city's very strange and un-democratic reading of it under Mayor Joy Cooper and the City Commission, which included Bill Julian, it concludes with this line that rings as true today as it did almost nine years ago.
"The mayor, however, has fostered a closed-door mentality that minimizes the dissemination of information and citizen involvement.)

Frankly, in my opinion, the remaining shreds of your journalistic objectivity disintegrate completely when people in a responsible position at your newspaper decide to allow Anthony Man to engage in his over-the-top coverage of DWS's every single movement at various times throughout the year, even while he neglects to mention the time of day to give readers any sense of perspective.
It's so unseemly, not to mention, so uninformative and boosterish, that I've had to throw the paper in the garbage bin rather than in the recycling bin to prevent the stink from it fouling up my kitchen.

I have written on this subject many times and the truth is that the Miami Herald is no better on this subject, having never mentioned the DWS/Thrush story either.
But then it's common knowledge among Broward residents who pay attention that their management and editorial team don't really consider Broward County to be a real place, full of living, breathing people/consumers/voters, just a place marked terra incognita on their maps, a fact that is proven when they go 6-7 months without anything anyone or anything re Broward County govt., politics, personalities or current events, much less, public policy, even appearing in their predictable four-page Sunday Op-Ed section.
The very same section where they can't go two weeks without mentioning Cuba or Haiti on their four pages, but something on where a good chunk of their readership lives, NADA.

Their consistently terrible coverage of local news and govt. in Broward County and unwillingness to have a Broward-centric columnist is their problem to solve, but it's no excuse for your newspaper and its its employees consistently ignoring what is in plain sight, even while it's now become par for the course for both of you.

But you at least have the advantage of geography, so what's your excuse for always being so slow on the uptick and always late to the news?
Or not even present?
Or consciously NOT printing news that's not favorable to powerful or influential people with whom you deign to stay on good terms with?

It's all very curious and does not at all encourage either respect or future support.

BetterBroward.org: Hallandale GOP Executive Committee endorses Csaba Kulin, Michele Lazarow and Gerald Dean in non-partisan Hallandale Beach City Commission races, rejecting Comm. Anthony A. Sanders and Bill Julian - "Sanders and Julian simply cause more problems than they solve and we deserve better."

This past week, all over town, the email inboxes of Hallandale Beach's most-concerned and well-informed residents and small-business owners received what I can only characterize as a most-welcome bolt out-of-the-blue regarding the upcoming city elections on November 6th, 16 short days from today.

I reproduce, below, that positive news about calls for increased financial accountability, increased scrutiny of public policy and increased use of transparency at Hallandale Beach City Hall -and recommendations for just who will make that a reality- courtesy of BetterBroward.org

FANTASTIC NEWS!

CANDIDATES FOR
HALLANDALE COMMISSION
RECEIVE VOTE RECOMMENDATIONS!
[]]

Three of the six candidates running for the non-partisan Hallandale Beach Commission have received unanimous "Vote For" recommendations from the  Hallandale GOP Executive Committee Members. Written GOP Voter's Guides are being delivered to all 4,500+ GOP voters in Hallandale. But we wanted to get this news out quickly for your consideration and benefit using Absentee and Early voting.

Hallandale GOP Committee members recommend you cast your TWO VOTES from among these three candidates. You may only cast two votes, but are electing three Commissioners. Why, well in a most undemocratic "sleight of hand" after the election process had begun, Commissioner Lewy maneuvered an unpublicized procedure causing you to be electing three Commissioners by only two votes. The third-highest vote-getter will be elected to the third seat by default. Thus, it is critical in this election you vote for two candidates for commission irrespective of having in the past cast just one vote in a "Bullet Vote."

The Hallandale GOP recommends you vote for two:
Candidate  Recommend for:
Mr. Gerald Dean     N.W. Hallandale Conservative Activist "Palms Community Coalition, Inc." serving families in the NW section of Hallandale. Gerald opposes Sander's lack of service to the NW suburbs, all the while Sanders and his wife Jessica benefited personally from his commission seat.
eMail:  gerald-dean@att.net
Phone:  (954) 610-0856
Mr. Csaba Kulin     Eastside experienced businessman, HB condo President, Community conservative activist, and extremely knowledgeable of city government and Commission shenanigans with our CRA monies. Csaba Opposes Red Light Cameras. Csaba has received endorsement from The Hispanic Vote.org organization.
eMail:  Csaba@Kulin2012.com
http://www.kulin2012.com
Phone: 440-759-6696
 Ms. Michele Lazarow
East side community activist, long time HB Business owner, champion for small government, opposes intrusive local government regulation imposed under the the incumbent Sanders, Lewy and past Commissioner Julian. Ms. Lazarow has received the Endorsement from the Hallandale Beach Fire Fighters.

The Local GOP leadership, your neighbors, are making these recommendations without regard to party affiliation but rather to achieve better Hallandale Beach Government. In fact  party affiliation has never been questioned in our consideration.

By Electing these three candidates to the Hallandale Beach Commission, We the PEOPLE stand a far better chance at getting a smaller, leaner lower cost city government without suffering loss of quality service. These are experienced business owners and community leaders who have evidenced a sincere desire to deliver good government for the people and put an end to cronyism.

We similarly recommend not voting for Sanders, Julian or Henigson, who are the remaining Commission candidates. Sanders and Julian are not recommended as they are part of the long term problems at City Hall and have exhibited lack of judgmental integrity and in the case of Sanders who is under investigation by the Broward Inspector General for possible self-dealing and receiving unjust enrichment in office. They are both simply a problems that need to be left behind. These two candidates have left a legacy of haunting problems that have pervaded the Council Chambers and its time to move them to the history files of Hallandale Beach.  Sanders and Julian simply cause more problems than they solve and we deserve better

Ms. Henigson, while we believe she is sincere, lacks the community credentials that could draw our support at this time.
We urge you to consider these candidates carefully and cast your TWO votes from among the RECOMMENDED candidates

WE DESERVE BETTER HALLANDALE GOVERNMENT
  LET'S VOTE TO GET IT.

Your Hallandale GOP Leadership Team:
Mr. Gerald Williams Y001Ms. Gineen Bresso, Y005
Ms. Emma Bumsteyn Y003Dr. Sam Colton Y005
Mr. John Patchen Y003Paul Cooney Y007
Chad Lincoln Y014

Nineteen months later, I haven't forgotten how pitiful it was to watch the organized group of brainwashed Beachside Montessori Moms in attendance that night cheer Gottlieb and Murray's serial lies, spouting their Kool-Aid nonsense that denied the self-evident reality of how the school came into being and how it came to be the particular way it was - racial whitewash.

Yes, the same two School Board members from next-door Hollywood who couldn't be bothered to attend the long-in-the-planning event at the Hallandale Beach Cultural Center four months later in June of 2011 on the longstanding funding/physical problems at Hallandale High School, where the parents and taxpayers got a chance to vent as well as hear from some of the original litigants in the successful lawsuit against the Broward Schools to end the unequal funding.

My friends Csaba Kulin, Catherine Kim Owens and myself were the only objective people from Hallandale Beach in attendance that night in Hollywood to see the entire dog-and-pony show, which sadly, only Channel 7 bothered to cover, despite the opportunity to ask two people with some real culpability for the whole sordid mess to explain in their own words what had really happened.

The devastating article that the Miami Herald is printing in its Thursday edition -see at bottom- regarding the unethical conduct of former Broward County School Board member Jennifer Gottlieb leads me to make the following observation:

Bob Norman: 1
Miami HeraldSouth Florida Sun-SentinelChannels 4, 6, 7 & 10: 0
Bob Norman wins.

Here's my post of July 26, 2010 on the subject that remains one of the most-read posts I've had in over five years:
Weeks later, Miami Herald, Sun-Sentinel & Miami TV newscasts STILL consciously ignoring Bob Norman's spot-on story re School Board's Jennifer Gottlieb

The latter members of the South Florida press corps were, sadly for of us, all too gutless to print or report on TV what some of them knew, she was putting taxpayers at risk, so instead of simply reporting the news and letting readers or viewers people draw their own conclusions, news reporters here didn't just actively avoid reporting the news -they actively suppressed it!
Surprise! Welcome to Egypt!

Meanwhile, all the timethe Herald's supposed Education reporter at the time, Patricia Mazzei, well, she "knows nothing, nothing" -just like Sgt, Schultz!

But then as many of you know from prior conversations with me where I have cited specific articles of her's and the subjects, among people I know and trust, Mazzei is better known for what she consciously chooses NOT to report, rather than what she writes.
Which helps readers how, exactly?

Two months ago I saw Mazzei at a M-D County Commission meeting in the chaotic and almost-Third Worldly Steve Clark Bldg. in downtown Miami, and it was all I could do to not to laugh hysterically when I saw her just a few feet away from me, thinking about all the interesting facts and points I'd heard at the meeting we'd both been awake for, but which I knew she'd make sure never saw the light of day in the newspaper, leaving readers in the dark yet again.
Mazzei would make a very good "minder" in North Korea.

This Herald article below, two years too late, comes as the perfect end of a perfect Wednesday night thinking about ethics: hot pizza, cold Heineken beer, '80's fave Lisa Whelchel on "Survivor," and reading some of the fascinating Grand Jury testimony re

My favorite so far?
Someone under oath posited that mendacious former Broward County School Board member Eleanor Sobel wanted to use the school "to bolster  her campaign for the Florida Senate."

That's 100% believable because that's the same woman who had the nerve to actually use a HB City Commission meeting as an opportunity to get signatures from the audience -during the meeting- so she could run for School Board, even though we all 'knew' she'd not stay, and was just using that job to get a salary and govt. pension while waiting to run for Steve Geller's Senate seat.
And that's what she did, isn't it?

I know that we're all still waiting to see Norman's promised interview with our mendacious mayor Joy Cooper on his blog on Channel 10's website re the city's red-light camera report that repudiates everything she's been saying, and her receiving mayoral campaign contributions from the Arizona firm spearheading that RLC effort in South Florida, American Traffic Solutionsjust days after she wrote an essay in support of red-light cameras in the Sun-Sentinel.

Yeah, I guess nobody at the Sun-Sentinel had the good sense to ask truth-averse Cooper

if she'd received any campaign contributions from the firm when the paper asked her to write essay. Oops!!!

That was real nice of the firm to wait until AFTER Cooper wrote a pro-RLC Op-Ed before giving her thousands and thousands of dollars. And damn convenient, eh?
That's how Joy Cooper rolls!

By the way, for those of you who didn't get the word earlier today, some other things have come up, so my long-in-the-works blog post that publicly crushes Hallandale Beach beat reporters, the Sun-Sentinel's Tonya Alanez & Herald's Carli Teproff, for their longstanding lack of curiosity and attention to detail -esp. re Comm. Sanders and the ethical scandal that has been swirling around him and his wife Jessica for the past three years, and specifically, his abject refusal to meet with HB taxpayers and tell them the truth- originally slated to appear this week, will appear on Saturday or Sunday morning instead.

Trust me, it's NOT going to be very pretty for them, but then given their dismal track record covering news here, of almost going out of their ways at time to avoid reporting what was right in front of them, a fact which has ill-served Hallandale Beach residents who want real reform and transparency at Hallandale Beach City Hall, how could it be otherwise?

Records in Broward schools investigation reveal affairs
By Michael Vasquez
Posted online September 19, 2012
While still in office, former Broward School Board member Jennifer Gottlieb engaged in two different romantic affairs with men who worked for a company doing business with the school district, according to law enforcement records now made public.
Florida Department of Law Enforcement records show that two employees of Citigroup, which was hired to help Broward finance bonds used to build schools, admitted to sexual trysts with Gottlieb.

I saw former Broward School Board Member Jennifer Gottlieb at a kids' event not long ago and she mentioned that the controversial school she helped build in her city of Hollywood, Beachside Montessori Village, was rated third-best in the state for FCAT scores.
I thought about saying, "Yeah, it's amazing what $20 million in taxpayers' money can do."
