Still no new news or facts in Hallandale Beach re January's double-murder of Toronto couple in Venetian Park neighborhood; Important Three Islands neighborhood public meeting tonight at 7 p.m.

The 'scarecrow' Police car on Three islands Blvd. as captured in action by me yesterday
It's time to retire the empty 'scarecrow' Hallandale Beach patrol car on Three Islands Blvd. since everyone, including criminals, knows that there are no police actually in the immediate vicinity. February 10, 2013 photo by South Beach Hoosier. © 2013 Hallandale Beach Blog, All Rights Reserved

* Important Three Islands community meeting tonight at 7 p.m.at the Anchor Bay condo at 300 Three Islands Blvd., located adjacent to the Three Islands south security gate. Park in guest parking.

Besides the two recent unsolved murders in Venetian Park -see below- and the increase in break-ins and robberies in the area, there's likely to be more than a little discussion and gnashing of teeth by HB residents who are VERY frustrated with the city's laughably insufficient policing policies in the area, which makes it likely that this'll be one of the few public meetings this year where HB City Hall does not have 'plants' at the location to kiss their butts and say what a great job everyone is doing.

Everyone at HB City Hall is NOT doing a great job, and that includes the HB Police Dept.

Almost everyone I speak to in this city, but esp, who those who live in NE and the Venetian Park neighborhood in particular have watched with dismay as whatever visible Police presence the TISND is paying for that's assigned to the area near Scavo Park, seems to spend all or most of their time doing paperwork, NOT actually observing what's going on and interacting with citizens.

It's sort of hard to interact when the assigned off-duty police car that the Three Islands Safe Neighborhood District is paying for always seems to have their tinted windows up  -and the A/C is on.

Everyone I know in the area believes this to be the case because they've personally watched it so many times, for so very long.
And so have I.
It's become the defacto default position for the police.

I plan on being at the meeting tonight.

Bob Norman's blog post re red-light cameras in Hallandale Beach has drawn some very interesting comments worth checking-out by Csaba Kulin, Michael Mayo and Charlotte Greenbarg re Hallandale Beach Mayor Cooper's credibility. Or, rather the lack of her credibility.

Above, Hallandale Beach City Hall Municipal Complex, where the city's own records show a track record of Mayor Joy Cooper and the City Commission compromising public safety for increased revenue for them to spend. So where's Police Chief Dwayne Fluornoy in all of this? Missing-in-action! Thanks for nothing, Chief! August 5, 2012 photo by South Beach Hoosier.   © 2012 Hallandale Beach Blog, All Rights Reserved

Studies: Red light cameras causing more accidents

http://www.local10.com/news/blogs/bobnorman/Studies-Red-light-cameras-causing-more-accidents/-/3223354/16278442/-/3sgf1jz/-/index.html

My friend and fellow Hallandale Beach/Broward civic activist -and HB City Comm. candidate- Csbaba Kulin first told me about Mayor Joy Cooper's clear-cut lies to the Broward County Commission within minutes of her stating them at the time, since he knew -as we all do- that the Broward County Commission sitting in that room was obviously in no position to know whether or not HB actually had those countdown clocks at all or some HB intersections where a red-light camera existed at the time.
They took Mayor Cooper at her word.
Big mistake!!!

Csaba also had spoken with me and written me -and many of you reading this- about the idea of Broward County Traffic & Engineering slightly lengthening the time for the yellow light to allow drivers to completely get out of the those intersection before Comm. John Rodstrom first mentioned it last year at one of the Commission meetings, which, if I'm not mistaken(?), was one of the ones where American Traffic Solutions was trying to get the County to allow them to tap into the County's system, and the Comm.'s response to cities supporting ATS in this effort was, essentially, so what about our cut of the money for the access?

Isn't greater safety what we all want?

Yes, you'd think so, but unfortunately, the record-to-date shows that this has NOT been Mayor Cooper's priority, given her consistent three-year pattern of patronizing lies, mis-truths, innuendo and fallacious reasoning on this subject.
More revenue for the city has always been the carrot for her, and she didn't care what she had to say or do to get it.

And now, given the analytical report on HB red-light cameras that was issued last that I cited on my blog on Saturday, City of Hallandale Beach prints analysis that refutes Mayor Joy Cooper's mendacious efforts on red-light cameras - "In summary, there is no safety benefit to the citizens, and there is no financial benefit to the taxpayer due to automated for-profit law"
http://hallandalebeachblog.blogspot.com/2012/08/city-of-hallandale-beach-prints.html
which Bob Norman linked to, we see the logical results of Mayor Cooper's efforts in Hallandale Beach -less safety, more revenue.

We all know that she wants to expand their use if re-elected in November, regardless of what the results to-date have been.

That's not my idea of public safety, and yet another reason why she needs to be defeated 70 days from today.

City of Hallandale Beach prints analysis that refutes Mayor Joy Cooper's mendacious efforts on red-light cameras - "In summary, there is no safety benefit to the citizens, and there is no financial benefit to the taxpayer due to automated for-profit law"; @MayorCooper,

IhosvaniRodriguez video: Red light camera in Hallandale Beach has some seeing red.
This is the video accompanying South Florida Sun-Sentinel reporter Ihosvani Rodriguez's story of more than two years ago. Uploaded July 8, 2010. http://youtu.be/0wl8xGKzfTU

I was first informed of the existence of this very-thorough report on Friday evening by Hallandale Beach civic activist Etty Sims, whose common sense, hard work and dedication to this community continues to manifest itself in all sorts of tangible ways that improve the quality of life in this city.
I guess I don't have to tell you that I read it with very mixed emotions.

Pleased that its results and conclusion largely support what I and many other citizens in this community said two years ago -that Mayor Joy Cooper's efforts from the very beginning were contrary to good public policy, given that her real desire all along was increased revenue to the city, NOT increased public safety.

This point was first proven when the city refused to place the first one or the second one or...
at the places in this city where there was consensus that genuine safety problems existed.
Nope, they placed them where they could get the number$ they wanted that would make .
American Traffic Solutions happy.

As I said just a few weeks ago, that's precisely why ATS and its related entities have given the full amount they could to Mayor Cooper's re-election campaign coffers, shortly after she wrote
this for the South Florida Sun-Sentinel
http://articles.sun-sentinel.com/2012-07-22/news/fl-guest-cooper-cameras-mon0723-20120722_1_red-light-cameras-camera-program-red-light-runners
since she's running on November 6th against the one person on the HB City Commission who was honest enough and smart enough to see thru her pretense and artifice and vote NO, Keith London.

But while I was happy to see my points from two years ago correct all over again, I was disappointed that common sense was such a big loser in the first place two years ago, and that so many people in this community were willing to look the other way in order to get into or stay in the good graces of our thin-skinned and voluble mayor.

But here, like in many cities, there are always people want to be the mayor's buddies and apologists, and we certainly have more than our fair share in this city of under 40,000, including some former friends of mine.
Given the mayor's forceful personality but lackluster record, it's hardly surprising that so many of the butt-kissers and apologists for City Hall here are women, too.

As you can see for yourself, when you pop this URL, you will see the official HB graphics on the front page, too!

An Analysis of the City of Hallandale Beach Automated For-Profit Red Light Camera Program
By Paul Henry
August 18, 2012

Despite a reduction in red light running crashes at the one intersection, this analysis has shown that the use of automated for-profit law enforcement devices has not increased the safety for the motoring public in the City of Hallandale Beach, Florida. To the contrary, from a safety perspective, the number of crashes for both intersections where it has been placed in
use have increased, with significant increases at one intersection. There were no fatal crashes.
A review of extended data for one intersection showed the same red light running crash
reduction from 2008-2009 with no device use.

So, two years later, after all the tires have been kicked and all the real numbers have been put to the test and been checked and double-checked, it seems that all the things that I wrote here on the blog about red-light cameras in Hallandale Beach, and which Hallandale Beach civic activist Csaba Kulin, HB Commissioner Keith London and thousands of other HB citizens made clear thru their overwhelming response to the city's own survey, have been proven 100% correct.

And who, using actual facts, has been proven wrong not only on the facts, but on the policy?
Mayor Joy Cooper and her past and current Rubber Stamp Crew of Dotty Ross, Bill Julian, Anthony A. Sanders and Alexander Lewy, and Police Chiefs Magill and Fluornoy.
And the Florida League of Cities and American Traffic Solutions...

Lynda Meier's disappearance one-year later: apathy and absence of effort & thought by the HBPD and the South Florida news media loom larger than ever

June 4, 2011 photo of Hallandale Beach Police Dept. HQ, across from HB City Hall, by South Beach Hoosier. On the one-year anniversary of Lynda Meier's disappearance, just as has been the case every single day since she vanished last June 4th, there was no flyer about her on the outside of the HB Police Dept., the City Hall bldg. or the nearby HB Cultural Center. Or anywhere in the entire city. SNAFU!

To those of you all whom have asked or written me about this past weekend being the one-year anniversary of the disappearance of Hallandale Beach resident Lynda Meier -a woman I never met but whose case I have consistently written about in this space- and why I consciously chose not to mention it, despite having a plan in place to do so for weeks if not months, I have an answer for you.

The answer is that in the last few weeks, as the date of June 4th loomed larger and larger, I realized that my original purpose in bringing to light certain key facts about how the story was publicly communicated to the local populace by the Hallandale Beach Police Dept., which is to say, BOTCHED, in a fashion that would be instantly recognizable to anyone who has any sort of understanding of how law enforcement agencies work a disappearance the first 72 hours, much less, by anyone who's ever watched a depiction of how they respond as shown in film or TV, I realized that the South Florida news media's overwhelmingly incurious behavior and lack of follow-through was as big a part of this story as any other.
How could it not be?
But how do you physically show on a blog, the absence of effort by the news media?

Rather late in the process, I decided that rather than do my thing this past weekend, complete with long-promised photos of some things you haven't seen anywhere else, I would wait patiently and bide my time.

I'd observe carefully and write about who, if anyone in the local South Florida press corps reported on the anniversary and whether they stuck to the softball coverage of the story, essentially, acting as stenographers for the HB Police Dept., NOT genuine independent reporters with a desire to move the story forward in ways that we would all recognize from what we have personally observed or seen in the rest of the country when these sort of inexplicable things have happened, not apathetic South Florida.

Apathetic South Florida residents and the corresponding apathetic news media who pretend to delve into issues are a match made in hell for the discerning citizen and well-informed news junkie. A conspiracy of jokers who need to be implored to do the very minimum and who ignore the public, regardless of what sort of BS they feed you about really caring what their readers or viewers think or want in news coverage.
They don't care and they don't want to hear from you either, even if you know something useful they and the public don't know.

I knew going in that if anyone publicly asked the long overdue probing questions to the Hallandale Beach authorities, they'd be a lonely island.

Especially if they publicly challenged the new HB Police Chief, Dwayne Fluornoy, who was prominently featured at the Meier press conferences last year when a Major.
He is someone who has completely underwhelmed me and many other concerned HB residents since he has been in charge, on this and many other issues in the city involving public safety and crime.
I never thought he should get the job and he is now showing just why.

His stubborn refusal to acknowledge reality, and make LONG OVERDUE policy changes that better utilize resources and personnel, instead, maintaining the tired and completely ineffective approach that hasn't worked since I moved here in 2003, is one of the reasons for the large jump in crime here in Hallandale Beach, as well as the HUGE increase in graffiti in well-traveled public areas that are seen by everyone and which are never dealt with.
HGS
anyone?

Above, the pseudo-story in April about the new HB police chief in the faux-newspaper that HB taxpayers continue to subsidize to the tune of tens of thousand of dollars every year on behalf of Mayor Joy Cooper and her Rubber Stamp Crew and the City Manager's office. Yet it still can't even list simple information correctly, witness the so-called North Beach Community Center's grand opening in January, which it ignored, despite City Manager Mark Antonio saying publicly the week before THAT was how HB City Hall would communicate with the residents in the future. Antonio didn't care that NOBODY reads it!
June 8, 2011 photo by South Beach Hoosier.

Considering the large percentage of taxpayer money gobbled-up in the city's budget by the Hallandale Beach Police Dept. for personnel costs, there are surprisingly few actual police officers on the street where and when you need them, and hard as it seems to believe, they seem more oblivious to what's right in front of them than ever.
Trust me, this WILL be coming out at upcoming city budget meetings.

Yes, all these things and more will be discussed here soon, with specific examples of the general sloth, indifference and obliviousness of both the South Florida news media to the Lynda Meier story-line, and the corresponding lack of effort by the HB Police Dept. -and their fan club of HB Crime Watch, which was then led by present-day HB Comm. Alexander Lewy- to do ANY of the things that are done within 72 hours of a disappearance to get info from the public, which were COMPLETELY MISSING here.

Yes, those long-promised photos of mine showing the empty windows and empty bulletin boards of retail stores and other businesses and the like along U.S.-1, Hallandale Beach Blvd. and State Road A1A that in a normal city, would have had at least one MISSING flyer with Meier's likeness.

Compare and contrast the competency of efforts and sense of urgency in my beloved Bloomington right now, with the dithering of Hallandale Beach police last year -it's striking!

: Westchester College Student Lauren Spierer Missing Since Friday

You'll see those photos and other information here soon, once I have given certain reporters, producers and columnists the benefit of the doubt, for many of them, for the very last time.

The longer I live in Hallandale Beach and Broward County and see for myself how things are consistently done in a half-assed and unsatisfactory fashion, the less I give government officials & employees and members of the South Florida news media the benefit of the doubt.
And that change in attitude will be quite apparent in future posts from here on in -no more Mr. Nice Guy.

Killer convicted! Illegal immigrant from El Salvador sentenced to 60 years in prison by D.C. jury for 2001 murder of Chandra Levy

Ingmar Guandique convicted of first-degree murder of former intern Chandra Levy

Guandique sentenced to 60 years for Levy murder
More than nine years after former federal intern Chandra Levy disappeared, a D.C. Superior Court jury found Ingmar Guandique guilty of first-degree murder in her death

By Keith L. Alexander, Washington Post Staff Writer

Friday, February 11, 2011; 10:37 PM

Susan Levy stood about two feet from the man convicted of killing her daughter Chandra and wasted no time telling Ingmar Guandique what she thought of him.

"Because of you, young man, you have caused us to live a Holocaust again," Levy said in a packed, hushed and rapt D.C. Superior courtroom Friday. "You have sentenced our entire family to days of sadness, tears and heartache. You are a hideous creature."

Levy stood at a podium, with Guandique two seats away, separated by his two attorneys.
At times, Levy addressed Guandique directly and pointed at him. "How could you take my daughter's life? Did you really take her life? Look me in my eyes and tell me."

Read the rest of the story, along with many other related features, at:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2011/02/11/AR2011021103591.html

Chandra Levy
belonged to the same sports gym I belonged to in downtown Washington, D.C., including that time period when she went "missing."

"Missing" -what a completely meaningless f-ing word when it applies to someone you have a connection to, no matter how tangential.

That "missing" photo of Chandra Levy, the one you you think you saw a million times on TV newscasts and insipid tabloid entertainment shows ten years ago, the one that was taped in the gym's front window on Connecticut Avenue north of M Street, and the other branch west on M Street towards CBS News' Washington bureau, that I and all the other gym members passed by everyday, well guess what, we saw it two million times.

And speaking of "missing," where were all the Lynda Meier "missing" posters in Hallandale Beach retail stores and restaurants and parks in the days immediately after she disappeared last summer? Oh, that's right, there weren't ANY.
Oh, so NOW you understand a little bit why that Hallandale Beach Police Dept. royal fuck-up last year under Police Chief Thomas Magill, that unprofessional Keytone Kop who threatened city residents and who used city funds and resources in an outrageous attempt to frame two innocent people to impress his dumb-ass boss, Mike Good -the useless former city manger that helped ruin this city through his sheer ineptness and incompetency, along with mayor Joy Cooper's full cooperation- an effort for which Magill was NEVER publicly punished or prosecuted for, made my head explode month-after-month?
Yes, Mendacious Magill!

See my July 1st, 2010 post,
What's THE worst possible thing you can do during an active search for a 'missing person'? Another tale of HB incompetency under Police Chief Magillhttp://hallandalebeachblog.blogspot.com/2010/07/whats-worst-possible-thing-you-can-do.html

Yes, that jaw-dropping fiasco last year where the HB Police Dept. NEVER put up ANY posters at ANY of the dozens of restaurants, retail stores, parks that residents visit daily, in the days immediately after Meier's disappearance, where a possible witness may've been found. Not one.

They NEVER even so much as put one up at next door City Hall, but sure as hell, there was a
taped missing poster for someone's pet at the time, right next to the City Hall front door.
But not for Lynda Meier.

Yes, I have THAT incriminating photo of the missing pet flyer at City Hall, just like I have the photos of all the dozens and dozens of storefront windows that had nothing in them about this missing HB resident, even though store/restaurant owners and managers I spoke to all over the city unanimously said they'd have put one up IF the HB Police Dept. or HB Crime Watch had merely asked them to.But they NEVER asked!
!!

And where exactly was the HB Crime Watch crew under their brown-nosing dear leader, Alexander Lewy, who never said anything the least bit critical about what Magill was doing or saying -or not doing- all those years when he was police chief, and alive?
Sitting on their fat asses!

They sure the hell weren't passing out flyers at busy intersections or stores or restaurants like they would be in other cities across the country in the first 72 hours, when time is of the utmost essence in looking for her and witnesses.
Yes, now that I've given you more context, the parts of the Lynda Meier puzzle and the City of Hallandale Beach's abject incompetency are starting to become clearer to you now, aren't they?

Me, I wish that illegal alien Ingmar Guandique was going to be executed next week.
The more painful, the better.

I'd be happy to pull the switch, push the button or tell him for the last time, "Adios!"

As of today, Friday February 11th, 2011, Hallandale Beach resident Lynda Robyn Meier has now been missing for 251 days, and the city's incompetent Police Dept. has still NEVER publicly posted one missing poster of her at a site where HB residents would have seen it.

Extra, extra, read all about it.
..

But not in the sleepwalking South Florida news media of 2011, eh friends?

I could tell you which print and TV reporters/columnists/editors/producers know all about that scandal in Hallandale Beach, but who have consciously said or written NOTHING about it.

Just ask me their names, I'll be happy to tell you.
And watch how rarely the words illegal alien ever come up in the Chandra Levy murder story over the weekend.
How utterly predictable it all is.

100 Days Missing: Lynda Meier of Hallandale Beach has been gone for over 14 weeks, so where are all the "missing" flyers around town?

Back on July 1st, even though I then already knew what the sad and damnable answer was to my rhetorical question, I went ahead and asked it here anyway, thinking that perhaps someone else in South Florida had noticed the same queer and unprofessional thing I had:
What's THE worst possible thing you can do during an active search for a 'missing person'? Another tale of HB incompetency under Police Chief Magill

This week, you will all finally see that answer clearly for yourself.

Spoiler Alert: It was right in front of you the entire time!

Mendacious and incompetent Hallandale Beach Police Chief Thomas A. Magill, who continues to make this small ocean-side city in Broward County a never-ending laughingstock thru his self-serving words, highly questionable actions and disreputable behavior.

You will see the dots connected thru the use of contemporaneous photos I've taken since the first few days following the disappearance of forty-year old Hallandale Beach resident Lynda Robin Meier.

If you're any kind of reasonable person, you will be both angry and shocked when you hear what's been going on here for the past 14 weeks: nothing but unfettered incompetency.

Friday, July 9, 2010

The answer to my question of last Friday re Lynda Robin Meier will be answered on Saturday morning

I've fielded quite a lot of emails and phone calls from people over the past week wanting to know what happened regarding my promised email and blog post of last Friday about what I and many other concerned Broward residents believe to be the very troubling and unprofessional situation with the Hallandale Beach Police Dept. and the case of missing Hallandale Beach resident Lynda Robin Meier, missing for exactly FIVE WEEKS today.

I will have the promised words and photos available for your perusal here on my blog Saturday morning.

For those of you who have become accustomed over the years to reading my blog posts as received emails before they ever appear in print here, you need to know that I've decided NOT to send it as an email, due to the number of photos involved, which would likely result in such an email bouncing back from many of your email accounts and rendering my efforts pointless, the last thing that I want.

The simple photos and my accompanying words -and your own natural curiosity and sense of expectations- will paint a very negative picture of the HBPD and some others in the community lo these many weeks.

So be it.

Last Friday I asked in my email and subsequent blog post:

What's THE worst possible thing you can do during an active search for a 'missing person'? Another tale of HB incompetency under Police Chief Magill

http://hallandalebeachblog.blogspot.com/2010/07/whats-worst-possible-thing-you-can-do.html

On Saturday morning, you will finally get your answer -and then some!
