Will upcoming NHL owner's lockout affect the $7.7 million loan from Broward County to Florida Panthers owner Michael Yormark, which he's clearly counting on to prop him up?

Below is a slightly-edited version of an email that I sent this afternoon to Broward County Administrator Bertha Henry, along with some other links that some of you may find of use if you are NOT already up-to-speed on the issue at hand, which, long story short, is a very unsuccessful professional sports franchise getting a multi-million dollar loan from a government entity who also happens to be their landlord.

When and if I hear from Ms. Henry in the near-future with respect to some answers to my questions, I'll share here what she had to say about what's going on with Michael R. Yormark and the Florida Panthers at the newly-renamed BB&T Center in suburban Sunrise, far from most of South Florida, out near The Everglades.

The reason I decided to even write the email and post it here is because of the continuing popularity in South Florida and other NHL cities of a February post of mine about some eye-opening video of Florida Panthers CEO Michael Yormark dodging some very reasonable questions by Channel 10's Bob Norman
at the Broward County Govt. Center moments after the County Commission meeting, which I watched online.

Some of you who pay attention to such things may well say, correctly, that this video presages the amazing video weeks later in the same building of Broward attorney, flack and lobbyist Bernie Friedman revealing his true nature, and thinking somehow that his clever remarks have more weight than video of what he is doing and saying.

Yes, the infamous elevator kerfuffle which played out exactly as these things so often do, with the predictable 'kill the messenger ' waterfall of words in the readers comments from staunch liberal Democratic activist and lobbyist Seth Platt, where he posted at least 8 separate posts, as if somehow seven was not enough.

Well, now we now all over again that "Eight is Enough," with Seth Platt in the Grant Goodeve role. Like a certain political commissar here in HB, reading Platt is like water torture.
Platt seems to be the "Tokyo Rose" of Broward County political social media, at once both everywhere, but also with nothing of substance to say that you're really interested in, instead, also the very picture of a tone-deaf self-promoter.

If you have not see those two videos, they're really 'must-see' in every respect, and I can tell you with certainty that if Channel 10 embedded their news segments, they'd have been anchors on this blog within minutes of them first airing.

Will the upcoming NHL owners lockout affect the $7.7 million loan from Broward County to Florida Panthers owner Michael Yormark, which he's clearly counting on to prop him up?

Dear Ms. Henry:

Are the Florida Panthers and Michael Yormark still legally entitled to the $7.7 million loan from Broward County if, legally, they're NOT a going concern as of the start of the NHL season on October 13th?

During the upcoming strike, which is, of course, more properly called an owner's "lockout," since Mr. Yormark's company will NOT be offering the public a product, service or benefit -or honoring tickets already sold to ticket holders (taxpayers) of this county- if those funds have NOT already been disbursed, wouldn't it be prudent to place them in an escrow account now so that they can't be used to stanch the expected financial bleeding in Plantation once the season comes with no games
being played?

If you have some time this weekend, you might want to peruse his Twitter feed.

Do you want to know a name that rarely if ever appears on his Twitter feed?
It's "Broward."
Yes, it's true.

Also rarely appearing there: Ft. Lauderdale or Plantation, where the team plays...
In fact, none of those names have so much as appeared once since July if then.
I stopped looking when they weren't mentioned since at least July 31st.

When you read it you see rather quickly that his is a lifestyle that's full of trips on private luxury jets and expensive steak houses and reading books on business leadership, as if reading about it was a substitute for doing it.

All this after he asks for a handout of over $7 million from taxpayer's elected officials that in my opinion could have been MUCH better used.
Say, well, for something that visiting tourists to Broward County would actually benefit from, and tell their friends about so they'd come down for a visit, too.

Look at me and my old-fashioned notions about how tourist bed taxes ought to be used!
No wonder I'm not flying on private jets these days and chowing-down at expensive steak houses in LA, NY and Vegas like Yormark and deducting it as a business expense.

Subject: FYI re WPLG-TV/Miami video: The BankAtlantic shuffle: Florida Panthers president doesn't
want to answer questions about $7.7 million sweetheart loan from Broward County

This video from the Thursday night 6 pm newscast is the perfect follow-up to my previous emails
on this subject,

My favorite take away is from the last one:

Broward County has gotten the short end of the stick in its financial deal with the Florida Panthers, and a proposed loan would only tip the scales further, the county's auditor charges.
To date, the county has paid more than $90 million for the arena that serves as the Panthers' home, and gotten back just $331,000 in profit-sharing.
The Panthers side of the scoreboard is far brighter, according to county records. Since the doors at BankAtlantic Center opened 13 years ago, Arena Operating Co., the Panthers' sister company that runs the arena, has rung up a reported $117.4 million in profits. That's more than 353 times what the county has banked.

This absurd loan to the Florida Panthers, which is opposed by the Greater Ft. Lauderdale hospitality
industry, a preening, self-important and self-serving group to be sure, but one who has a much better
idea about what tourists do and do not want to do when they visit than the county commission, and
going to a Panthers game on the outskirts of The Everglades near nothing but a huge shopping mall
is NOT one of them.

But first, here's the Florida Panthers' tone-deaf Michael Yormark in a video from Forbes;
Yormark's the clown who who won't answer questions below.

The Channel 10 video, and the antics of the people shown, speaks for itself.

Mounting public anger & criticism of Obama & Hillary's dithering foreign policy failures in aftermath of Cairo & Benghazi attacks; Facts finally starting to penetrate MSM's pro-Obama narrative and defense shield on this story even while ABC's "World News With Diane Sawyer" lays one egg-after-another

publiusforum video: CNN's Nic Robertson Interviews Brother of Blind Sheik Omar Abdel-Rahman in Cairo on September 10, 2011. Uploaded September 13, 2012. http://youtu.be/tPszLCEyu-I
Story at: http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Journalism/2012/09/13/Cairo-Riots-Were-Not-Over-Offensive-American-Movie-Freedom-of-Blind-Sheik-The-Goal

*FYI: CIA Director David Petraeus will be meeting with House Intelligence Committee members this morning*

Though it's the newscast that I always watch and prefer, Thursday night's "ABC World News with Diane Sawyer" was one of the worst in quite some time, more noteworthy for what they neglected to say than anything they actually reported -never a good sign.

This case of collective hysterical amnesia at the alphabet network seemed especially curious in light of interesting news reports that emerged over the course of the day that only gathered steam as the day went on, as they made even more preposterous many of the Mainstream Media's claims of the day before and that morning's daily newspapers.

The facts simply wouldn't cooperate and fit their assumptions.

These were all "facts" that that you reasonably expected to see mentioned at some point in a national newscast when the subject of the riots and murder in Benghazi and Cairo came up

and yet...

Yes, sometimes even when Diane Sawyer is standing right there in the middle of it, the absence of evidence is evidence itself, and so is the refusal of her news program to mention these inconvenient facts when it goes against the Mainstream Media narrative of that morning.

Here's just a small list of what WASN'T mentioned on Thursday night's "ABC World News with Diane Sawyerhttp://abcnews.go.com/WN/

1.) Libyan government announced that organized and heavily-armed groups used the so-called film protests as a cover to stage coordinated attacks.

Yes, the rocket-propelled grenades are always a tip-off that civic discourse is not at the top of someone's agenda.

[And why so much reluctance by ABC News and the rest of the Mainstream Media in the U.S. to mention how often variations of "Osama, we are with you" was heard a week at the protests one week  after the DNC mentioned Osama Bin Laden 21 times with respect to their famous hunter Obama practically killing Bin Laden himself.

TV and print reporters in other countries who speak Arabic and who are there on the ground are mentioning it, so why aren't U.S. reporters mentioning how often the words "Osama" and "Obama" are mentioned in the same sentence, and not in a positive light?

Speaking of speaking the language of the place you are reporting from, how's Barbara Raddatz's Arabic?
Perhaps Paul Ryan will ask her at the October 11th Vice-Presidential debate she is moderating.

No need to do that, I can answer that question for you.

ABC News reporter Barbara Raddatz, like so many other American A-list reporters routinely go to countries where they don't speak the language -like Arabic- and have to be totally dependent on others to explain what in the hell is going on.
So, why do we need to hear from her then?
Good question.

But ABC News doesn't care that she doesn't actually understand what is being said all around here while she is supposed to be reporting.

To them, the most important thing is that she's there -is showing the ABC flag.
That's NOT the most-important thing to me -facts are.
(She was in washington on Thursday night)

2.) Why nothing at all about this f-ed up situation with Larry Schwartz at the U.S. embassy in Cairo? Guess they were too busy trying to find another Republican in DC to criticize Romney.
Anonymously, of course.

One staffer at the U.S. Embassy in Cairo was responsible for the statement and tweets Tuesday that have become grist for the presidential campaign, and that staffer ignored explicit State Department instructions not to issue the statement, one U.S. official close to the issue told The Cable.
Two additional administration officials confirmed the details of this account when contacted late Wednesday by The Cable.

3.) All Thursday morning and afternoon, credible reports emerged that despite what President Obama said about the Libyan security forces helping transport Ambassador Christopher Stevens to another building per their protocol, credible stories that members of the Libyan security forces had in fact signaled to the armed organized groups that were there to storm the consulate that the move was taking place.
The groups already knew that Stevens would be moved, they just weren't sure where.
Once they knew, it was easy to fire their rockets right at him.

It was literally like he was herded into the scene of his death.
This was not mentioned at all on ABC's newscast

Uh-oh! Mira!
Here's something finally penetrating the MSM's invisible force field
Notice that this is being given a 6:45 am time stamp, even though I heard this yesterday before 1 p.m.

Official: Libyan insiders may have aided assault
Updated 6:45 a.m. ET

(CBA/AP) BENGHAZI, Libya — Heavily armed militants used a protest of an anti-Islam film as a cover and may have had help from inside Libyan security in their deadly attack on the U.S. Consulate, a senior Libyan official said Thursday.
As Libya announced the first four arrests, the clearest picture yet emerged of a two-pronged assault, with militants screaming "God is great!" as they scaled the consulate's outer walls and descended on the compound's main building.

4.) Surprise! Reports throughout the day emerged that U.S. Ambassador to Egypt Anne Patterson wouldn't allow U.S. Marines guarding the embassy compound to carry live ammunition.
http://nation.time.com/2012/09/13/whats-worse-no-marines-or-possibly-unarmed-marines/

With all their resources and personnel, how is ABC News unable to either confirm or deny this story by 6:30 p.m. Eastern?

Or mention that she was in Washington at the time?
Really, how can that be?

If it turns out to be true, like you, I can hardly wait to hear the future interviews with the Marines and their leaders back in Washington on the fact that the very people most-responsible for the safety of U.S. personnel were reduced to playing the role of Barney Fife, who, lovable as he was, famously, wasn't allowed to have a loaded gun while he was on-duty in Mayberry.

And as if I even have to mention it, Ambassador Ann Patterson's name was never spoken on-air Thursday. Again.
Hmm-m...

Honestly, what is it about female U.S. Ambassadors posted to the creepy patriarchal Middle East, and their own feelings of protocol and or inadequacy, that actually cause them to threaten U.S.lives thru their queer policy pronouncements?

If true, unfortunately, Anne Patterson's bad decision-making will remind many of us that after the bombing of the U.S.S. Cole in 2000, the last year of the Clinton Administration, the U.S. Ambassador to Yemen, Barbara Bodineimposed all sorts of rules on the U.S. officials sent to investigate the bombing that took place on her watch.

She seemed to be the very stereotype of a spiteful feminist who wanted to keep men at a distance even though they were the ones who had any power on the block she lived on.
Instead of letting common sense prevail, she said that allowing so many FBI and CIA agents -read assertive men- would send the 'wrong signals' about who really ran U.S. foreign policy.

She forgot that it wasn't her.

She was the worker bee who works for us, not the other way around.

In case you forgot or never knew the exact details, Bodine was the stick-up-her-ass PC U.S. Ambassador to Yemen who tried to thwart the Cole investigation and famously took steps to revoke the visa of FBI Special Agent John O'Neill, the FBI's leading expert on al Qaeda and on-scene commander in Yemen after he arrived from New York with his team of counter-terrorism agents.
Yes, really.

Among so many other things that seem contrary to U.S. interests, Bodine famously intervened and prevented his re-entry into Yemen after he'd flown back to New York for Thanksgiving 2000.
O'Neill, of course, died ten months later in the 9/11 attacks on the Twin Towers

See PBS's Frontline "The Man Who Knew"

PBS FRONTLINE: The Man Who Knew - Parts 5 of 8
http://youtu.be/s7T5gAD1SSI

Here is what PBS says on their Frontline website about that situation in October of 2000.
I usually would not put so much of that here, but it's important that you see what part of her decision-making rings familiar today, considering Patterson's orders.
Arriving in Yemen, O'Neill finds challenging field conditions. His agents confront 102-degree heat and a cramped, unsecured hotel for their quarters. O'Neill soon finds himself clashing with Barbara Bodine, the U.S. ambassador to Yemen, who is concerned about the number of FBI agents and military personnel flooding into the country after the bombing. O'Neill argues that the FBI needs resources to thoroughly investigate the attack. Bodine has different priorities, including maintaining good relations with Yemen. "I had to act as a cultural interpreter. They have endured first British colonialism, and then the Soviets. These people have only had foreigners telling them what to do. Now O'Neill and his men were coming in, doing essentially the same thing," Bodine later told Britain's The Sunday Times.
As relations between the two sour, the number of topics they disagree on multiplies. O'Neill wants a heavily-armed security presence; Bodine wants the agents to be unarmed. O'Neill wants to have direct access to Yemeni officials; Bodine feels she should supervise encounters. As O'Neill starts to seek support from Barry Mawn and other FBI officials back in the U.S., the cables sent by Bodine to the State Department become increasingly critical of O'Neill. It reaches the point where Louis Freeh and Janet Reno become personally involved in the dispute.

Intrepid Swedish police inspector Kurt Wallander and beautiful-but-dangerous Ystad FINALLY makes it back to TV in Miami again

Before you ask, yes, you're right, I was just thinking the same thing.
PBS has taken seemingly forever to catch-up on the English language TV series adaption of Henning Mankell's Kurt Wallander novels, starring Kenneth Branagh as the idealistic Swedish police inspector who investigates murder in the greater Ystad area of Skåne in southern Sweden, that has both its rural-but-beautiful charm as well as the Danish medieval old town area. (And many readers of the blog!)

Originally broadcast on BBC1, where it continues to air and Series 3 started up in early July, almost two years since the last episode of Series 2 was supposed to air in the U.S., this past Sunday we finally saw Season 3's series-opener An Event in Autumn.
Below, a preview of that episode.

This has been a particular problem far from both Albion and Wallander's Ystad, as where I live in South Florida, the Miami PBS station has NOT shown some of the series episodes from the previous two seasons, the last of which was supposed to air in October of 2010.

gogomezzz video: PBS "Wallander" Series 1, Episode 1- "Sidetracked" based on the 1999 novel  "Villospår," starring Kenneth Branagh as Police Inspector Kurt Wallander. I know because I've waited and waited and waited... only to hear about it from friends in other U.S. cities, while we in backwater South Florida were getting buried under an avalanche of WPBT's mishmash of programming geared to get elderly Anglophiles and elderly supporters of Israel to cough up some money during one of their all-too-frequent fundraising drives.

The last point is ironic given Mankell's well-known anti-Israel political sentiments, even to the point of having been a passenger and willing participant on one of the Palestinian Ship of Fools flotillas that never succeeded, but still, I wanted to see the shows -in order- and not have to buy the DVD to do that.

I've said it here before but it bears repeating: to me, compared to the options that are available to other PBS viewers in other parts of the country, WPBT-TVChannel 2, based out of North Miami, is the worst-run PBS
station of any American city I've ever lived in, given its resources and locale, and I know of what I speak.

It is so far from what it once was - entrepreneurial, opportunistic and community-minded.
That was back when I and some friends of mine in the pre-Cable TV mid-1970's, actually went around the North Miami Beach area trying to get local businesses -especially bars and restaurants- to contribute money to Channel 2 when they announced, quite out-of-the-blue, that IF they received enough money to purchase the rights, they would simulcast -wait for it- the NHL's Stanley Cup Finals
We succeeded, they aired it, we watched it in huge numbers -and the then-small number of sports bars were happy to have so many hockey fans showing up heir venues.
Everyone won, especially South Florida's sports fans.

The current management people making decisions at Channel 2 seem not capable of the sort of thinking outside-of-the-box that its former execs did to give South Florida programming that nobody else was offering us.
If they ever has a fastball, they've lost it, and it's clear that it's never coming back...

Google's Sergey Brin previewing new 'Google Glasses'; England U-21 goalkeeper Ben Amos wearing Google-cam while balls are kicked at him during practice. The mind reels at the possibilities of this!; Wait until iJustine gets a pair of these!; @iJustine

England video: England U-21 goalkeeper Ben Amos wears The FA TV's Goggle-cam during a crossing training session. Uploaded September 8, 2012. http://youtu.be/egOtUmoE7Mo

This awesome video of England U-21 and Hull City goalie Ben Amos wearing Google-cam glasses while soccer balls are flying towards him during practice causes the mind to reel at the myriad possibilities of this, both training and entertainment!

(Or, in the hand of blogger iJustine, priceless. I'd be willing to bet that there's already someone at Google HQ in Mountain View trying to figure out how they can speed-up the process so that Justine Ezarik can get a pair in her hands -and on her oh-so cute face- and start evangelizing the product in her usual original and amusing ways via videos that capture the eyeballs of lots of early adaptors.)

Hypothetically, in its simplest form, at a minimum, you could equip a striker wearing one pair of Google-cam glasses on a breakaway and a goalie wearing a pair moving out to block and you could see both points-of-views via a split-screen on TV, during a quick replay following a shot on goal, or via a sub-channel like what NASCAR does on DirecTV with driver-cam showing the view of individual drivers.

Hallandale Beach CRA budget meeting Wednesday night; re 2009 South Florida Times article, BROWARD DEMOCRATIC BLACK CAUCUS ELECTION VOIDED re Josh Brown, Jr. - How come Hallandale Beach crony capitalism prince Josh Brown Jr., a Director for Palms Center for the Arts, Inc., didn't get prosecuted?

With the City of Hallandale Beach's CRA Budget adoption meeting coming late Wednesday
the opportunity for many of us to finally get some long-overdue answers to questions we've all wondered about, or asked and got the "we'll look into it" response.

I thought that it was about time that I personally tried to get an answer to this curious piece of shady business re Josh Brown, Jr. in 2009, hence my email to the one person who wrote the only known extant account of what happened -Elgin Jones of the South Florida Times.

Did you see Brown  last Wednesday night, sitting by himself in the last row on the right side of the Hallandale Beach City Commission chambers, just a few feet in front of Joy Cooper's Rubber Stamp Crew's Peanut Gallery, who were almost constantly talking throughout the night, even while the HB cop sitting a few feet away just completely ignored them?

Among the folks in Peanut Gallery were Andrew Markoff and Leo Grachow, the same two HB residents who applauded so wildly when Comm. Lewy first made his proposal in mid-August. Birds of a feather and all...

Yes, Brown was cheering wildly for Joy Cooper, Alexander Lewy and Anthony A. Sandersthe very people who have constantly kept money flowing into his family's pocket for years that originated at Hallandale Beach City Hall, whether as CRA funds or from former City
Manager Mike Good.

According to this Broward Bulldog, article,

Details emerge about Broward IG’s Hallandale probe; payments to commissioner’s wife eyed
By William Gjebre, BrowardBulldog.org, June 22, 2012 at 6:20 AM

the Palms Center for the Arts, Inc., where Josh Brown Jr. is a Director, has received $107,000 from the City of Hallandale Beach the past three years, and is among the groups whom the Broward Inspector General requested copies of their files from the city.

They may call it one thing at City Halls, but everyone in town calls it exactly what it seemed like -money from City Hall  to keep them and their pals on Team Cooper's side.

Especially given that he and his sister and their cronies will likely be in attendance at the  Wednesday meeting, expecting as always that their annual City Hall gravy train under Mayor Cooper will continue, as they give HB taxpayers $10 a year in rent while they receive tens of thousands of dollars.

Don't know if I will get a response from Elgin Jones at the newspaper, but it was long past time to write him and see what, if anything, he had to add to what he originally wrote in 2009, since I've never seen anything else in print or on TV about that series of unsavory episodes where Brown's clear lack of character was made self-evident.
If I get a response, I'll let you know.

Dear Mr. Jones:

re your 2009 article, BROWARD DEMOCRATIC BLACK CAUCUS ELECTION VOIDED

Have you ever heard or been given a reasonable explanation for why Dr. Deborah R. Brown's brother, Josh Brown, Jr., whom you reference in your article, and a Director at the Palms Center for the Arts, Inc. that she is President of, which, according to documents they themselves provided to the City of Hallandale Beach last year,
is NOT a 501(c)3 as most people assume
was, apparently, never prosecuted by the Broward State's Attorney for his leading role in attempting to commit a fraud against the Broward Democratic Black Caucus in 2009, by engaging in a coup against a legally-chartered political organization, including as you wrote at the time of your interview above, Josh Brown, Jr. setting-up a bank account in their name and then later soliciting funds under false pretenses?

While I appreciate that historically, misrepresentation is often hard to prove in court, per se, this sounds pretty clear-cut to me.

Also, have you ever heard any sort of plausible explanation given for why Brown was apparently allowed to illegally use the address of his sister's organization on City of Hallandale Beach-owned land as an office address for a political campaign or organization of his?
Not a Post Office box he rented or one at a nearby Mailbox Etc. but the actual physical address of property owned by taxpayers, 501 N.W. 1st Street.

It's this building, where at 0:56 of this July Channel 10 video, hey, what do you know, there's Director Josh Brownhttp://youtu.be/XlOgkrL9CWI

How has he been able to apparently skate on all these things?

If you have any information or update on these matters that you'd be willing to share, I'd greatly
appreciate hearing from you.
