A new plan for SUP, surfing, and kayaking rules was presented by Rudy Jurado of Hollywood Fire Dept/Beach Safety on 3/6/19. It is definitely better than the Fire Dept’s original plan (that’s a victory!), but not what we had suggested as a compromise. Apparently, the plan is intended to be a 6 month trial period. (We are hoping that after 6 months, the city will expand it even further). Thank you to those who came to this meeting, came to previous meetings, and spent so much time trying to push for the change of rules. Thank you to the city for reducing restrictions. The most positive part of this plan was that you can paddle anywhere on Hollywood Beach before 10 am. Surfing and kayaking zones have been expanded. Progress is being made slowly but surely. Bringing a little aloha to Hollywood Beach.

When someone laughed at me and said I’d never be able to legally paddle off Hollywood Broadwalk, I said, “Challenge accepted!” 🤙🏾😎 Beautiful Monday morning on the Broadwalk. Bringing a little aloha to Hollywood. Thanks to the @cityofhollywoodfl for giving us more freedom and space to paddle and surf and kayak, AND a safe place to launch early in the morning.

One of the Best Things abt #HollywoodFL🌴🏖️🌊🐟- Positive change is possible, even in getting common sense changes enacted re #SUP/Stand Up #Paddleboard use. It's not perfect, but is an improvement that can be built upon in future.https://t.co/YpMwv9uIjc @UdenCatherine @mo_seas_— HallandaleBeachBlog (@hbbtruth) March 23, 2019
