Just emailed the following letter to the powers-that-be at Hollywood City Hall, from the City Manager's Office to the Mayor to the City Commission, Police Chief and the CRA Manager.
Frankly, compared to so many of the blog posts that I have made here over the past eleven years since I started this blog, this post requires nothing in the way of context.
It probably helps, though, if you are a regular reader of this blog that one of my pet peeves is bad or non-existent lighting in public places, whether at a retail facility or a government location.
Former Broward Comm. Sue Gunzburger, one of my favorite people, still probably has a memory somewhere of those times many years ago when I sent her a list of how poorly lit Hallandale Beach Blvd and State Road A1A was at night right before Hurricane Season started.
There were, literally, stretches of miles where not a single street light worked at night, so you can only imagine how bad things would be if people in those areas were forced to evacuate on already traffic-gridlocked streets at night.
And transit-wise, as for the conditions of the pitch-black city-controlled bus shelters, well, let's just say that in Hallandale Beach, 95% of them have no lights that work at night, just as has been the case for the past dozen years under the reign of ruin of mayor Joy Cooper.

Nearly every single street light has been out for the past 10 days, from East-bound Harrison Street to north of West-bound Harrison.
If not longer
On both the inner side of the circle and the outer side.
With the number of Hollywood Police, City of Hollywood employees and the Downtown Hollywood business owners themselves and their employees who are present at night, I'm beyond dumbfounded that in an area that is SO tourist and visitor-dependent for its economy -that is, dependent on positive word-of-mouth- that the area has been allowed to be pitch-black at night since at least last Tuesday night, the 17th, including public parking areas that are where so many members of the public park when attending the Monday night Food Trucks and Funtastic Friday family events.
Like tonight.
My own guess is that the current conditions have been going on for much longer.
You only see light in the photo above, taken this week, because of the parking lot lights across the street.

Why?
The street lights that aren't working are clearly shown above.
Considering the amount of infrastructure in place and the number of taxpayer dollars that go towards promoting the Downtown Hollywood area, this is a a VERY POOR reflection on the city.
