Broward School Board taking their act on the road to... Gainesville.
Tuesday, via another workshop, they'll practice NOT stealing the UF silverware!
Or, as this is described on the Broward County School Board's website:

School Board Members' Workshop
KCW Administration Building
-Develop a "Tackle Box" for the Master Board Training

More on what a "Master Board" is later, and no, it is not more prestigious than being named to "Mortar Board." The former you choose to pay to become, the latter, you are chosen.
Big difference!

So, did you hear the exciting news about what nationally-known and infamous group of people is taking their sorry act on the road to... Gainesville?
Yes, the Broward County School Board.
Yes, the judge in the Court of popular opinion is going to let them all leave the county -like a jail break.
Not sure what sort of bail they'll have to post or who's driving the yellow school bus or even who's in charge of making the road trip mix-tape.
As you might imagine, they don't put those sort of details on their website, owing to privacy concerns.
(Lots of Eagles, I'm guessing.)
Also not really sure what kind of security entourage they'll be taking with them so they can feel like they're at home.
If anyone from outside of Broward is at their meetings, all I can say is prepare to be frisked!
These are VIPs!
School Board Police State Costs Tax Money

On Tuesday, they'll be having another taxpayer-financed workshop in their office tower in downtown Ft. Lauderdale on that future trip!
Oh, do they ever LOVE their workshops!
Love, love, love 'em!

Judging by the calendar on the website of the folks who throw these shindigs, Florida School Boards Association, it looks like Broward's least-favorite group of elected officials will be heading up to Gainesville next month.
You tell me.

If the seven Broward School Board members were, ahem, kidnapped in Gatorville -and no, I'm NOT in favor of paying the ransom!- and replaced by the seven smartest students in the UF Education/teacher-creating assembly line, would future School Board meetings be more- or-less productive?
Yes, exactly.

Now as to the matter of what a "Master Board" is, something I'd never heard of before i saw the ad above in the Miami Herald...

Palm Beach County School Board members aim for master status
22-hour training program starts Monday
By Marc Freeman, Sun Sentinel
July 24, 2011

The Palm Beach County School Board and Superintendent Bill Malone want to do a better job of serving the public and working with each other.
They say they have just the solution — becoming a Master Board.
Beginning Monday, the seven-member board and education chief will start an intensive 22-hour training program delivered by the Florida School Boards Association.
For a $5,500 fee, the school district's "leadership team" is expected to learn how to improve communication, build trust, make ethical decisions, solve problems and hold productive meetings. The idea is that students ultimately would reap the benefit of having more effective leaders.
"I'm hoping it will be beneficial," said Vice Chairwoman Debra Robinson, who was first elected in 2000 and is the longest-serving board member.
Robinson says she hopes the effort will help the board and superintendent better understand the roles and responsibilities in running the school system. Clashes had developed between the board and former SuperintendentArt Johnson
over who was in charge, and the public had criticized the School Board for being Johnson's "rubber stamp."
The School Board has totally different members since it last held the Master Board distinction with former Superintendent Joan Kowal in the late 1990s.
The current group has not been together that long. Four new members joined the board in November, and Malone replaced Johnson in late February.
The Master Board program is completely voluntary.
The process begins with a two-day forum Monday and Tuesday in the board room of district headquarters in Palm Springs. The theme is titled, "Seafaring and Fishing."
On the first day, the agenda features introductions under the heading, "What's in your tackle box?" and a discussion of leadership styles and trust building.
For the second session, the board will review ethical challenges and learn about "ethical management."
Three more 4-hour workshops will be scheduled later in the year on different leadership topics.
According to the School Boards Association's website, the program will "strengthen the leadership team's ability to work effectively, efficiently, and collectively as a governance group."
