Import woes! American teens now bypassing U.S. crooks and importing foolproof fake IDs from China! Dozens arrested in Chicago & 'burbs

Dozens Charged in Cook County Fake Driver’s License Bust: MyFoxCHICAGO.com

FoxChicago/WFLD-TV video: Dozens Charged in Cook Co. Fake ID Bust. July 22, 2011. Dozens of Chicago-area kids have been busted for buying fake IDs after an extensive investigation into counterfeit driver’s licenses being ordered from Chicago and paid for with money orders and shipped from China.

This video consists of two separate reports, the first with reporter Tisha Lewis doing a stand-up on the city's busy bar-heavy Near North Side, and the second with Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart appearing in studio downtown to speak on the seriousness and stupidity of the crimes and the degree of sophistication involved.

As for the "young people' the Sheriff is talking about, me, I'm putting my money on the clever kids and future leaders from Evanston High or New Trier!

"Princeton could use a guy like Joel."

This also answers the question of whatever happened to former WTVJ-TV/NBC6 reporter Tisha Lewis.
She got the last laugh on everyone down here, a few years after-the-fact, finally getting to a media market where people really do pay serious attention to local news, unlike down here.
Like the newspapers, for instance.

People who have moved to South Florida since roughly Hurricane Andrew have no earthly idea of the amount of space the Miami Herald once dedicated to covering local TV and radio trends, personalities, feuds & firings in their entertainment section in the 1970's and '80's, since I read every article.

(For more on that long ago media era, see my South Beach Hoosier post of July 14, 2008,
Speaking of Marlins stadium cost over-run provisions...
http://southbeachhoosier.blogspot.com/2008/07/speaking-of-marlins-stadium-cost-over.html)

I don't even bother to look at that section of the Herald any more, as it goes right into the recycling pile. And when I do look there, just out of curiosity, it's unappealing in the extreme.

Latest effort of House star Hugh Laurie is a heartfelt New Orleans jazz album that is getting lots of raves

Monday morning on BBC Radio 5 live's Victoria Derbyshire Show, during the last segment, i.e. just before 7 a.m. Eastern U.S., this Hugh Laurie jazz/blues album was the subject of considerable positive commentary, particularly by singer Cerys Matthews, who was keen to say how much she loved the album and how it was so much better than she could've hoped.

She was also quite keen on saying that people needed to accept it on its own terms, and not pre-judge it. Don't act critical of it to begin with by saying, Oh, isn't that the Oxford University grad Hugh Laurie, the trained actor who was NOT born in Alabama, singing the blues about not having a nickel or dime, even though he is the highest-paid actor on American TV?
Yes, he is, get over it and listen to the music.

I hope to have more on this topic soon, perhaps even the audio from this morning's BBC discussion, so you can hear it for yourselves.
That will also likely include the question of questions:
Can't we (England) do better than a '90's boy band like 'Blue' at Eurovision?

Quality writing counts! 'Friday Night Lights' last season begins tonight at 8 p.m. on NBC-TV

As you'll recall me mentioning previously, I watched all the Season 5 episodes of FNL on DirecTV already, so I can tell you with certainty that this is THE best season yet.

'Friday Night Lights': How a Low-Rated Drama Launched the Next A-List

Per the above, which comes with a photo gallery, I actually watch all the current TV shows starring the former FNL cast members.

I especially like Fox-TV's new show, The Chicago Code, with Matt Lauria and Jason Clarke as police detectives, Jennifer Beals as the Police Supt. (and Clarke's character's former partner),with
Delroy Lindo dazzling as usual as the ethically-challenged Chicago councilman, with both a do-good angel and corrupt devil perched on his shoulders.
They are pitch-perfect in their roles in a show that may be my favorite new 2011-12 show.

Last week's episode, "Wild Onions" was the best yet, and hopefully, Fox will show the wisdom to pick it up soon for a second season, since there are lot of compelling stories a cast this talented can tell about a city with a million stories.

Minka, we've missed you this past year!
We were relieved to have heard months ago that you're going to be spending so much time in Miami, both the real one and the TV version via
ABC's remake of Charlie's Angels.

TMZ.com 'unknown' Adrianne Palicki cast as 'Wonder Woman' in David E. Kelley's upcoming NBC-TV show

Screenshot of TMZ.com at 12:40 p.m. today.

I did this search this afternoon on a whim after getting a frantic phone call from a well-connected Left Coast friend about this big entertainment news:
NBC Casts Wonder Woman, Prime Suspect. Good Actress = Good Show?
Posted by James Poniewozik Thursday, February 17, 2011 at 10:45 am

http://tunedin.blogs.time.com/2011/02/17/nbc-casts-wonder-woman-prime-suspect-good-actress-good-show/

Naturally, given her years on TV, even the recent critically-lauded but ratings-challenged Fox-TV show, Lone Star, which I just loved, I expected that TMZ would at least have something up about our Tyra, even if just something in the archives.

Maybe some fetching photo of her at a film premiere or a charity bash.
Nope!

Instead, as you can see above, it read simply, "Your search did not return any results."

I fully expect this cloak of secrecy about Adrianne on one of the most-popular entertainment websites in the world will change in a big way soon, as the casting news about this iconic role, so much-discussed on Internet chat sites and forums, in myriad languages around the world, percolates in the blogosphere, and the curiosity about this talented young actress escalates.

Adrianne's
comments in a special segment after the Friday Night Lights series finale aired recently on DirecTV, were very accurate and heartfelt, and could well have been spoken by any of its many devoted fans, of which I am but one.

For those of you who will watch the series final season on NBC-TV soon, that last episode could NOT have been more perfectly written or acted, too!

Friday Night Lights final season on NBC-TV begins on April 15th.
http://www.nbc.com/friday-night-lights/

Sorry Eliza Dushku and Cobie Smulders, I was rooting for ya, but Adrianne will do a great job, I'm sure.

I'm really happy to see our Tyra finally get this big break in her show biz career, a chance to be
THE star of her own show.

Adrianne
has been one of the most compelling parts of FNL, one of its moral compasses, and it's great news that David E. Kelley & Co. saw her potential and decided to reward her for her hard work and excellent acting.
Given our feelings for the show and her, we're rooting for her in a very big way!

Going Old School & New School: 'See the USA in Your Chevrolet' TV ad - Dinah Shore in 1952, 'Glee' cast in 2011

In a word: Brilliant!

See the USA in Your Chevrolet - Dinah Shore, 1952 http://youtu.be/iK43-ERSwwM

For those of you who had never heard of or seen the original iconic Dinah Shore Madison Avenue classic, you're welcome.

Since I'm a big believer in source material to give you the appropriate context, if you watch this, you will learn more than you could want about the new 1953 Chevrolets -and see where the songs appears in the scheme of things.
The entire song was from A Great New Star (1952), with Dinah starting to sing it just after the 10:19 mark.

No "Glee" on Capitol Hill, but a lot of smiling faces at Fox-TV; "Where is Love" - Molly, Frida and Mimmi Sandén

Recently, I was finally able to watch the Pilot episode
of Fox-TV's critically-acclaimed new show Glee from
beginning to end without interruption, instead of in bits
and pieces.

I even noticed over the weekend while I was over at
Wal-Mart that they was selling the Pilot DVD for only
$5 a pop, and as it happened, while I tried to find a
register with a short line, I noticed a couple of kids
with the DVD in their hands, certainly a positive sign
for Fox in general, and what promises to be a huge
audience tonight -including me- when it has its Fall
premiere at 9 p.m.

That's about the time that most Americans will be
wondering why President Obama didn't outline
the specifics of what he wanted in his health care
reform package in the first place, instead of giving
Congress enough rope to hang themselves,
as if his doing the exact opposite of Hillarycare,
holding things close to the vest and meeting in private
and initially refusing to tell the public and press
who was in the meetings, was going to be the road
to success,

One of the songs that was sung in the Pilot is one that
I've heard probably a couple of dozen times before,
Where is Love from Oliver!, and yet I know that
what's become my favorite version of it, an a cappella
version, is one that 99.99% of you have never heard before.

Well, that being said, since the show will be on in a
couple of hours and I can't really imagine any scenario
where I'd ever have an excuse to use it here in the
near future, for your listening pleasure, from Stockholm,
the ridiculously-talented Sandén sisters: Mimmi,
Frida and Molly.
